Shabbat Metzora Shabbat HaGadol

Continued from page 1

One of the unusual features of Bnai Yeshurun’s Daf study is that we don’t have someone who teaches the shiur every day. Rather, we have a roster of teachers that rotate on a regular basis. Special thanks to CBY’s current maggidei shiur: Manny Adler, Manny Adler, Kenny Bander, Ira Cooper, Moishe Grinfeld, Alex Gutman, Irv Klavan, Alan Krantz, Marvin Oppenheim, Tully Polak, Aaron Rothstein, Yitz Schulman, Jackie Stromer, Rabbi Zahtz, David Zomick. (That was not a mistake. Manny gets double recognition because he teaches the Daf twice on every Shabbat. When he is away, Elliot Small is his designated understudy.) Thanks also to Alan Schoffman who schedules the morning Daf sessions and arranges for “substitute teachers” when necessary. He also is responsible for “public service announcements” including “life events” of the Daf participants, announcements (but only for travel to/from Israel), etc.

It’s hard to explain (because it’s hard to understand) the attraction of Daf Yomi. What motivates the approximate 25 members of our morning Daf group to get out of bed between 4:30 and 5:00 am every day? For decades! Why not “give it a try” as we begin a new tractate next Friday? By the time the next world-wide Siyum HaShas rolls around on New Year’s Day 2020 you’ll be a veteran and can join fellow CBYers in an incredible experience. New Year’s Day? Just a coincidence? Full disclosure: Cycle actually ends on January 4th but celebration is scheduled for the 1st. (Note: this article contains exactly 613 words, not including this sentence- just a coincidence?)
