May 15, 2019 brought with it the centennial of the Winnipeg General Strike; an historic event that’s legacy triggered the establishment of workers rights, collective bargaining and union representation that work forces globally depend on today, a century later.

Mr C Young and M. R Sokalski, along with Grade 10 and 11 students worked hard over the past month on diorama’s, models and banners show- casing these events along with samplings of food, music and costume.

Classes were invited to attend presentations throughout the day by several speakers specialising in aspects of the strike itself, personalities and photos from the day and life in the early 1900s in addition to a lunchtime talk by Wab Kinew, leader of the provincial NDP, who discussed the importance of labour rights and the connections between the modern NDP and the Winnipeg General Strike. —
