Exhibit showcases instructor's work

Tom Almanzar Staff Writer

Tucked away in a small room of the art department, the Faculty Art Exhibit consists of a dozen or so works by Fullerton College art instructors. Mediums used in the works range from cast-paper, used in Nixson Borah's depiction of volleyball players, to watercolor, like Don Hendrick's San Clemente Shadows, a life-like painting of familiar beach architecture seen in a new light. Hendrick's painting may be mistaken for a photograph if not carefully examined. Volatile Conjunctionuses the gallery wall for effect. The farther one moves away from it, the larger it seems, because the wall is part of the picture. A two-part work by Barbara Berk extends painting into the three- dimensional by using a series of sculptures identical to the shapes in the picture behind it. Hanging across the room from the entrance of the exhibit is a painting that might resemble a geography-book diagram, showing the layers of the earth, or possibly a mere mass of wavy lines, depending Tabloid truths on the viewer's perception.
