Bankia finalises its Board of Directors

• Claudio Aguirre, Virgilio Zapatero and Juan Martín Queralt join the ’s governing body

Madrid, 11/07/2011. has filled the last seats on its Board of Directors, with the appointment of Claudio Aguirre (independent non-executive director), Virgilio Zapatero (proprietary director) and Juan Martín Queralt (other/non-executive director). With this appointment, the Bankia board now has 19 members, the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) reports.

Claudio Aguirre Pemán has a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Studies from Universidad Complutense de and an MBA from IE Business School in Madrid and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He is currently chairman and founding partner of Altamar Private Equity, a member of the International Advisory Board of Goldman Sachs & Co. and a director of Mercapital, Vocento Group and Endesa Gas. He has been head of the Spanish operations of The Chase Manhattan Bank and of Goldman Sachs Investment Banking. He was chairman of Merrill Lynch International Bank.

Virgilio Zapatero Gómez has a PhD in Law from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. At present he is Vice-President of Caja Madrid and a director of BFA and holds the chair of Philosophy of Law at Universidad de Alcalá de Henares, where he was Dean until joining Caja Madrid. He has been chairman of the Conference of Vice-Chancellors of Madrid, minister for Parliamentary Affairs, deputy minister and chairman of the Constitutional Commission. He has been a trustee of the Instituto Cervantes and of the Biblioteca Nacional and a member of the board of trustees of various foundations.

Juan Martín Queralt has a bachelor’s degree in Law from Universidad de Valencia and a PhD in Law from the University of Bologna, Italy. He is a professor of Finance and Tax Law at Universidad de Valencia and Universidad de Murcia, where he also held the position of Dean. At present, he is a director of Seguros de Empresas and a member of the International Tax Association, the Spanish Association of Tax Advisers (AEDAF) and the Spanish Association of Finance and Tax Law Professors.
