{TEXTBOOK} the Professor, the Banker and the Suicide King THE PROFESSOR, THE BANKER AND THE SUICIDE KING: INSIDE THE RICHEST POKER GAME OF ALL TIME PDF, EPUB, EBOOK Michael Craig | 288 pages | 01 Jul 2006 | Little, Brown & Company | 9780446694971 | English | New York, United States The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King on Apple Books For three years, Beal ratcheted up the stakes, developed a world-class heads-up Texas hold 'em game, and devised unorthodox ways off cutting into the pros' advantage. On a few occasions, he left Las Vegas disgusted by his losses. On others, he threatened to win the combined playing bankroll of every high-stakes poker player in Las Vegas. Even though the pros saw their edge slip to almost nonexistent, they continued to engage Beal at ever-higher stakes. With poker's surging popularity as a backdrop, its most able practitioners demonstrate the precariousness of their profession, where one wrong move, even at the pinnacle of their success, can pave the road to ruin. He played against Chip Reese and Andy Beal. Back in February , Beal first visited the Bellagio poker room. He enjoyed the atmosphere and met professional poker players, like Todd Brunson. Beal decided to study the game and face top players. Andy returned to Las Vegas and played heads-up with professionals for the highest stakes. Top professional poker players decided to pool their money with everybody who they thought could play the game against Beal. Beal began his match with Chip Reese, then Ted Forrest sat down. He is then asked to join the group and nobody else sits down besides Beal and his selected opponent, who alternates. Late in the series, The Corporation was forced to have all of its members add money to the collective bankroll in order to continue the match. The "professor" is Howard Lederer, a professional poker player whose rigorous analytical approach to the game earned him his nickname. The banker is Andy Beal, a multimillionaire obsessed with beating the world's best poker players at their game, limit Texas hold 'em, played for stratospheric stakes. The suicide king, a symbol of the aleatory nature of the endeavor, is the king of hearts, who holds his broadsword behind his head. It's a great mix, and Craig The 5 Minute Investor offers a knowledgeable and observant chronicle of the high-stakes games between Beal and the syndicate of professional players organized by the "Babe Ruth of poker," Doyle Brunson. Beal, for his part, took a mathematical approach, at one point running millions of computer simulations of various poker problems, in search of an edge against the pros, who rely on an uncanny intuition honed by thousands of hands. Craig includes enough details about the professionals to allow readers insight into their gambler personalities. Having interviewed many of the participants in this legendary poker battle, he describes it with an appropriate sense of awe, and readers will be awed as well. Very nice to understand the high stakers concepts of money, risks, ups and downs of ones whom choose to be a professional gambler. With poker's surging popularity as a backdrop, its most able practitioners demonstrate the precariousness of their profession, where one wrong move, even at the pinnacle of their success, can pave the road to ruin. It is a world of outsized skills, egos, and ambitions. A self-made billionaire by the name of Andy Beal, the stranger challenged some of the world's greatest poker players-including Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese, Howard Lederer, and Jennifer Harman-to heads-up matches in the richest poker game ever played This is that story As the games intensified over the coming months and Andy developed into a great player, he realized how he could take his adversaries out of their comfort zone-he raised the stakes to put everything they had on the line. For the first time ever, here is the detailed, true account of the Big Game that has already achieved legendary status in poker lore. Putting you railside to observe the pulse-pounding action, where you can almost hear the distinct sound of clay chips on felt, Michael Craig takes you inside the iron-nerved mind and pathological psyche of the professional gambler. Filled with vivid characters, sensational tales, and riveting human drama, The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King is a unique, suspenseful journey into the world of people who live on the razor's edge of fortune- where incredible wealth, or utter ruin, turns on the flip of a card. But after warming up at those stakes, the Stranger, a self made millionaire by the name of Andy Beal, wanted to play even higher And so began what would become the richest poker game in history. In order to play at such high stakes, the top ten poker professionals in the world had to form "The Corporation" to pool their money and keep playing against Andy Beal and his seemingly limitless bank account. It is a story of outsize egos, appetites, and ambitions; it is a story about the highest echelons of poker playing that very few are able to see; it is a story about one man, twenty million dollars, and one of the most exciting poker games in history. Lies, really. They range from the innocuous (“Certain slot machines are ‘ready’ to pay off”) to the inane (“You can beat keno with the right system”). None of the Vegas myths is bigger, though, than the one that goes like this: “It’s possible to drift into town with only a few bucks and leave a week later with a fortune.” That’s the elemental Vegas myth, the one that turns normally responsible men into fools and pensioners into paupers. Were it not for the gambling public’s unwavering faith in the Big Myth, Las Vegas’ casinos wouldn’t win billions a year.

TM Poker FOR DUMMIES' by Richard D.Harroch and Lou Krieger Foreword by Chris Moneymaker Winner of the 2003 World Series of Poker ® WILEY Wiley Publishing, Inc. About the Authors Lou Krieger learned poker at the tender age of 7, while standing at his father’s side during the weekly Thursday night game held at the Krieger kitchen table in the blue-collar Brooklyn neighborhood where they lived. Lou played throughout high school and college and managed to keep his head above water only because the other players were so appallingly bad. But it wasn’t until his first visit to Las Vegas that he took poker seriously, buying into a low-limit Seven Card Stud game where he managed — with a good deal of luck — to break even. “ While playing stud,” he recalls, “ 1 noticed another game that looked evert more interesting. It was Texas Hold’em. “ 1 watched the Hold’em game for about 30 minutes, and sat down to play. One hour and $100 later, 1 was hooked. I didn’t mind losing. It was the first time I played, and 1 expected to lose. But I didn’t like feeling like a dummy so I bought and studied every poker book I could find.” “ I studied; I played. 1 studied and played more.
