Eric Shore, Auburn’s all-time winningest men’s tennis coach, enters his 25th season on the Plains during the 2014-15 season. After posting a 14-14 record in 2013, Shore now holds a 332- 266 career record at Auburn for a .555 winning percentage.

Since beginning his Auburn coaching career before the 1991 season, Shore has established Auburn as one of the top programs in the country, averaging nearly 14 wins per season with 20 NCAA Tournament appearances.

He became the all-time winningest men’s tennis coach in Auburn history on Feb. 5, 2005 as he guided his squad to a victory over Samford to capture win No. 193. Shore passed former head coach Hugh Thomson’s 192 career wins as the latter was head coach from 1982-1990. He picked up his 300th win with the Tigers on March 16, 2012, with a 7-0 win over Central Florida. MARTIN STIEGWARDT ASSISTANT COACH

Martin Stiegwardt enters his second season as the assistant men’s tennis coach at Auburn.

Stiegwardt helped lead the team to a 14-14 record and a 16th straight NCAA Tournament appearance. He spent his first two years as a coach at Virginia Commonwealth University before accepting the assistant coaching position at Auburn, where he was the assistant coach for the men’s and women’s programs. He was named 2012-13 ITA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year during his final season at VCU.

He also boasts an impressive resume outside the collegiate level, serving as the Executive Director of Tennis at SportsQuest Tennis Academy in Richmond, Va., and serving as tennis pro and Junior Academy Director at Willow Oaks Country Club. Stiegwardt has worked in the professional ranks with Giovanni Lapentti, who reached a ranking of no. 110.

The Quito, Ecuador, native also has an illustrious playing career. Stiegwardt competed at Wimbledon and Junior Events during his youth, while also playing for Ecuador in the .

He was the national singles and doubles champion in the Under-12, 14, 16 and 18 age groups in Ecuador, and was ranked No. 40 in single and No. 24 in doubles by the International Tennis Federation. He then began his collegiate career at Florida in 2005.

Stiegwardt transferred to Georgia State, where he graduated from in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and was named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll while receiving the CAA Commissioner’s Award during his final two years at GSU. He finished his career ranked in the top 50 in the NCAA in singles.

QUICK FACTS Name Yarbrough In 2005, Auburn University set out to make its men’s and women’s tennis teams Tennis Center two of the best programs in the country, starting with a state-of-the-art facility. Courts 6 Indoor 12 Outdoor The facility has 33,314-square feet of indoor space with six indoor courts, 16 Clay Courts 12 outdoor courts with stadium seating and 16 clay courts. The Yarbrough Tennis Center also houses a pro shop, men’s and women’s locker rooms, concessions and a meeting area. All 12 courts are world-class lighted courts used for both competition and practice by the Auburn tennis teams.

“This outstanding facility is a result of the hard work and dedication of numerous people from the City of Auburn and Auburn University,” said Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs. “One of the finest tennis facilities in the Southeastern Conference, the Yarbrough Tennis Center will be a tremendous asset for the men’s and women’s tennis programs at Auburn for years to come.”

As one of the best facilities in the Southeastern Conference, Auburn hosted the 2008 SEC Women’s Tennis Championships and the men’s tournament in 2009.

The City of Auburn/Auburn University Yarbrough Tennis Center replaced the Luther Young Tennis Complex, Auburn’s tennis home since 1978.
