NARROMINE AVIATION MUSEUM

In 2020 Narromine celebrates 100 years since it played its part in the genesis of air travel across the world. To mark the centenary, adventurer Michael Smith flew a modern amphibious aircraft along the route from England. On his Australian leg he was joined by a pair of ultralights. The three crews stopped over at Narromine, just as Sir Ross Smith and crew had in 1920. The Narromine Aviation Museum, a local volunteer project, was opened in 2002 by pioneer aviatrix Nancy- Bird Walton, and extended in 2016. It displays a unique collection to showcase the remarkable story of local aviation. Highlights include three aircraft believed to be unique in the world: • Narromine’s Wright Flyer ‘A’ - the only flyable replica of the 1907 ancestor of powered aircraft. • 1938 Corben Super Ace homebuilt light sport aircraft • 1953 Hawkridge Venture Glider A 1955 Sabre jet fighter can be viewed separately.
