A Native of Providence, Rhode Island, Paul Mecurio Is an Emmy And A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Paul Mecurio is an Emmy and Peabody Award winner for his work on "The Daily Show w/Jon Stewart." He has appeared in his own Comedy Central Special, starred in his own series on HBO, appeared on CBS's "The Late, Late Show," VH-1, "Conan O'Brien," "Red Eye w/Greg Gutfeld," "Hannity," CNN, MSNBC, "The Tonight Show," "The Daily Show," and ABC's "Wednesday's at 9:30." Paul graduated with honors from Georgetown Law School and began his career on Wall Street as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer at the law firm of Willkie Farr and Gallagher and later as an investment banker at CS First Boston. All the while, Paul was honing a second career writing and performing comedy and was hired by Jay Leno to write jokes for “The Tonight Show.” With the encouragement of Jay, Paul moved center stage, leaving Wall Street and starting his career as a stand-up comedian. Paul was invited to be on the writing team for a new Comedy Central show called “The Daily Show.” As a writer for “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” Paul won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement In Writing In A Variety, Music or Comedy Program. Paul has also been honored with a Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting (think The Pulitzer Prize for Broadcasting) for his work on The Daily Show. Paul has also received a second Emmy nomination for his work on “The Daily Show.” Paul has been featured on “The Daily Show” as a correspondent and in “The Daily Show” segment, “Second Opinion,” in which he skewered the medical profession playing an HMO representative with a less than sympathetic mindset. Paul appears as a contributor on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and CNBC. Paul is a regular satirist on “Hannity,” “The Joy Behar Show,” “Dylan Ratigan” and “Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld.” Paul created, executive produced, stars in and hosts the HBO Sports web series, “Got No Game with Paul Mecurio,” which recently premiered with weekly installments at www.HBO.com and www.paulmecurio.com. The series takes a satiric look at the world of sports through original sketches and one-on-one interviews and has been nominated for an Emmy Award. Paul has three television shows in development. A sit-com starring Paul based on his unique journey from being a Wall Street lawyer and investment banker to comedian and actor. Lewis Black will co-star. Don Scardino, the famed director from “30 Rock,” will Direct and Executive Produce. Paul has a second show centered around his unique brand of stand up that involves the audience. The show, entitled, “Mob Rule w/Paul Mecurio” is a talk show hosted by Paul that gives a voice to the audience-the average American. Wayans Productions is attached to produce. Paul has also developed an adult animated show called, “Paul Mecurio’s The Disgraced Squad,” about a group of disgraced sports superstars who have been kicked out of sports and use the very powers that got them thrown out of sports to fight crime and do evil. Paul was seen in a guest-starring role opposite John Cleese in the ABC sitcom “Wednesday at 9:30” and shot a television pilot set in New York City for famed producer/directors Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana. He can be seen in the dramatic film, “High Art, Low Life,” written and directed by Peter Nourjian and is the lead role in the independent film “Faux Pix.” A national headliner in clubs across North America and in Europe, Paul has performed three times at the prestigious Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and has made over two dozen national TV appearances including multiple appearances on “The Late, Late Show” on CBS, “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show,” “Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn,” NBC’s “Late Friday,” Comedy Central’s “Dr. Katz” and on VH1’s popular clip shows...

    Analysis of Talk Shows Between Obama and Trump Administrations by Jack Norcross — 69 An Analysis of the Political Affiliations and Professions of Sunday Talk Show Guests Between the Obama and Trump Administrations Jack Norcross Journalism Elon University Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements in an undergraduate senior capstone course in communications Abstract The Sunday morning talk shows have long been a platform for high-quality journalism and analysis of the week’s top political headlines. This research will compare guests between the first two years of Barack Obama’s presidency and the first two years of Donald Trump’s presidency. A quantitative content analysis of television transcripts was used to identify changes in both the political affiliations and profession of the guests who appeared on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” CBS’s “Face the Nation,” ABC’s “This Week” and “Fox News Sunday” between the two administrations. Findings indicated that the dominant political viewpoint of guests differed by show during the Obama administration, while all shows hosted more Republicans than Democrats during the Trump administration. Furthermore, U.S. Senators and TV/Radio journalists were cumulatively the most frequent guests on the programs. I. Introduction Sunday morning political talk shows have been around since 1947, when NBC’s “Meet the Press” brought on politicians and newsmakers to be questioned by members of the press. The show’s format would evolve over the next 70 years, and give rise to fellow Sunday morning competitors including ABC’s “This Week,” CBS’s “Face the Nation” and “Fox News Sunday.” Since the mid-twentieth century, the overall media landscape significantly changed with the rise of cable news, social media and the consumption of online content.

She was the Illinois Lottery’s First Lady, anchored the first edition of midday news and sports, hosted a magazine- style TV show and served in management as Director of Community Relations. One of the first African- American women to anchor the news in the Windy City, Dee has parlayed her celebrity into charitable success, powerful motivational speaking and advocacy. She has raised millions of dollars for children's charities, spearheaded victims' rights legislation, and helped increase adoption rates across the nation. In 1966, Merri Dee landed her first radio position with WBEE in Harvey, Illinois. She was one of the first female DJs on WSDM radio and opened her four-hour radio show at WBEE as “Merri Dee the Honeybee.” During the next year, Dee developed a following in Chicago radio, becoming a local celebrity. In 1967 she made the leap to television quickly with WCIU Chicago as host of a Saturday primetime entertainment show. By 1970 Dee hosted her own talk show, The Merri Dee Show, on WSNS Channel 44. In 1972 Dee was hired as an anchor for Chicago’s WGN-TV. After 11 years in various on-air positions, Dee moved into administration and became the station’s Director of Community Relations and Manager of its Children’s Charities. People seem to have a huge interest in other people’s lives and there seem to be an amazingly endless line of topics to talk about. Celebrities, placed in a fake comfort zone that they can’t escape, are forced to talk about their personal business. People just like you and me are willing to tell all about their problems on a TV- show that is aired to millions of people. I can’t let go of my contradictory feelings concerning talk shows – I am fascinated but at the same time scared about how a person can make a total stranger feel so comfortable in front of millions of people.
