Construction Update — July 2014

The East Rail Line is a 22.8-mile electric commuter rail line that will connect Union Station to International Airport (DIA), passing through Denver and Aurora. It is scheduled to open in 2016. Regional Transportation District rtd-.com Feature of the Month — July 2014 40th Avenue Reconstruction A reconstructed 40th Avenue from Blake to York streets reopened on June 30, 2014. Over the course of the closure, contractors created space within the roadway for the East Rail Line, installed and relocated the required utility lines, and fully reconstructed 40th Avenue. We thank nearby residents, drivers, businesses and commercial truckers for their patience throughout the construction as we move forward toward opening day of the East Rail Line in 2016.

40th Avenue at the start of construction— Nov. 29, 2012 What work was performed? As part of this construction project, DTP crews did the following activities:

 Relocation of dry utilities  Installation of a new drainage box  Reconstruction of 40th Avenue  Installation of curbs and gutters  Construction of sidewalks on the south side of the street  Rebuild of the York and Josephine streets intersection at 40th Avenue Construction on the drainage under 40th Avenue— Mar. 20, 2013 How was 40th Avenue improved?

 Drainage improvements along 40th Avenue will help decrease flooding during heavy rains  Pedestrian safety is improved thanks to installation of eight-foot sidewalks on the south side of 40th Avenue  40th Avenue from Blake to York streets is completely reconstructed in concrete  The intersections of Josephine and York are combined to form one railroad crossing to increase safety of the traveling public
