Entrepreneurial Spirit- Gin tasting and networking event, 30 June, 5.30pm – 7.30pm, Orchid

Join fellow graduates Ben Irvani (MEng) and Josh Rennie (LLB), entrepreneurs and creators of Porters Gin for the inaugural alumni networking event – Aberdeen Connect. Aberdeen Connect provides a bi-monthly opportunity for professional networking with your fellow alumni living and working in and around Aberdeen. During this first event Ben and Josh will talk about their business successes, inspiring discussion around entrepreneurship and how you can embrace the concept in your day to day life. They will then lead us on a gin tasting experience! (£5 payable on the night).

In Conversation with Ian Rankin, 23 July 1.15pm - 2.15pm, Arts Lecture Theatre

Ian Rankin’s interest in the urban underworld, in crime and detection, and the strong inter- relation between character and environment place him firmly in the tradition of Dickens, most particularly in Dickens' Bleak House, which introduced the first major detective into English fiction. Rankin will be interviewed by BBC news presenter James Naughtie, himself a graduate of the University of Aberdeen, Chancellor at the , and author of several books including a spy thriller "The Madness of July". Tour of Rowett building, 31 August, 5.00pm - 7.00pm, Foresterhill

In March this year, the University’s Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health relocated to an exciting state-of-the-art new building on the Foresterhill medical school site. We are delighted to invite alumni to be among the first to come and see round the new facility. Places are limited on this tour so register early to avoid disappointment.

Tour of Cruickshank gardens and Welcome to Aberdeen event, 3 September, 12 noon, Cruickshank gardens and James MacKay Hall

Join Mark Paterson, Curator of the Cruickshank Botanic Garden, for a tour of the UK’s northernmost Botanic Garden. The 4.5 hectare property has over 2,500 species grown in picturesque settings, including an arboretum, a sunken garden and a stunning herbaceous border. Following the tour alumni are invited to join us for refreshments at the “Welcome to Aberdeen event” in the James MacKay Hall. This will be a lovely opportunity to catch up with fellow graduates and to meet with our new students and share your experiences of studying at the University of Aberdeen.

The Land Endures: Bringing Sunset Song to Life, 7 June – 30 November open Tuesday – Saturday 11.30am – 4.30pm, , King’s Museum

This exhibition, curated by the University of Aberdeen Museum’s Museum Studies students, brings fiction to life by examining the stories of the main characters in Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s iconic Sunset Song.

Objects from the University Museums collections that highlight items found in the novel are on display and are used to follow the stories of Kinraddie’s characters. Each object represents an important event in the novel, bringing the story and the characters of Sunset Song to life.
