The Lockport Invitational Competition is open to all eligible skaters who are members in good standing with US Figure Skating or .

US Figure Skating rules for non-qualifying competitions, as set forth in the 2018-2019 US Figure Skating Rulebook, shall apply. The IJS judging system will be used for all short ​ programs & Juvenile through Senior freestyle (except Open Juvenile) and Adult Gold freestyle, all other events will be judged using the 6.0 judging system. ​ ​

ELIGIBILITY The Lockport Invitational Competition is open to all eligible skaters who are members in good standing with US Figure Skating, Skate Canada or an accredited basic skills program. The competition will be conducted in accordance with the rules of US Figure Skating governing non-qualifying competitions, and will be governed by the official rules of US Figure Skating as specified in the current US Figure Skating rulebook, except as modified by this announcement. th Eligibility will be determined by age and/or tests passed as of May 27 ,​ 2019. Large events will be ​ ​ ​ separated into flights with separate awards for each flight. Skaters may choose to skate in any category for which they qualify. Skaters may not compete below their test level. Freeskate test level passed is the criterion for Freeskate and Compulsory Moves events.

ENTRIES Both mail and online entries will be accepted. Paper entries must be filled out completely and th legibly to be accepted and postmarked no later than May 27 ,​ 2019. The competition chairperson reserves the right to cancel an event if ​ ​ ​ there are fewer than 3 entrants (with full refund of entry fee), and to combine and divide groups

ENTRY FEES Mailed paper entries must be accompanied by entry fees which should be made out to: The ​ Buffalo Skating Club. All checks and/or money orders must be in US FUNDS ONLY. Late ​ ​ ​ ​ applications are subject to a $25.00 late fee and will only be accepted upon available time and space. No refunds will be issued after the close of entries (including medical) unless an event has been cancelled. If you register online, the processing fee is not refundable for any reason. REGISTRATION A registration desk will be open throughout the competition, located in the lobby area of Cornerstone Arena. Competitors should arrive approximately one hour prior to their designated ​ ​ skate time and register promptly upon arrival. Events will not be delayed for late arriving skaters.

PLANNED PROGRAM CONTENT SHEET All skaters competing in the short program, Juvenile through Senior freestyle and Adult Gold freestyle events are requested to update their Planned Program Content on the US Figure Skating website, or to submit a Planned Program Content Sheet with their registration form.

AWARDS st nd rd th th Medals will be given for 1 ,​ 2 ​ and 3 ​ places. Ribbons will be awarded for 4 ​ and 5 ​ places. ​ ​ ​ ​ ​ Award ceremonies will take place at posted times throughout the competition. Awards will also be available immediately after the event has been posted for pick up at registration.

RESULTS Results will be available at the registration desk after each event for $5.00 for IJS events, $0.25 per copy for 6.0 events. MUSIC Each competitor must supply their own music on a CD (No CD-RW’s, MP3’s, or music upload systems) for the freestyle, short program, footwork and showcase events. CDs should be clearly labeled with skater’s name, event and running time. CDs must have only 1 track. Skaters are urged to bring an additional copy of their competition music. Music is to be turned in at registration and will be available at the registration desk for pick up shortly after the event. FACILITIES All events will take place at Cornerstone Arena, 34 Chestnut Street, Lockport, New York 14094. ​ ​ The ice surface is 200’ x 85’ with rounded corners. The full surface will be used for all events with the exception of the specific compulsory & basic skills events mentioned in this announcement. A snack bar and dressing rooms are available. Various vendors will be on hand selling dresses, t-shirts, pictures and more. LOCKER ROOMS & CHANGING AREAS: Only athletes competing at the figure skating event are allowed in the Locker Rooms/Changing Areas. An exception may be allowed for an athlete age 11 years or younger to be accompanied by one parent of the same sex to assist their child immediately prior to and after their skating event(s). All Locker Rooms/Changing Areas will be monitored. If any concerns arise, immediately contact the Locker Room/Changing Area monitor. If there are concerns regarding this policy, an athlete should change prior to arrive at the competition. The use of any recording and photographic devices inside a Locker Room/changing Area is strictly prohibited. Any violation of this policy is punishable under the U. S. Figure Skating SafeSport police and U.S. Figure Skating Rulebook. SCHEDULE As soon as possible after registration a tentative schedule of events and information regarding practice ice will be posted on the BSC website: www.buffaloskating.com. LIABILITY US Figure Skating, The Buffalo Skating Club, and the Cornerstone Arena accept no responsibility for injury or damage sustained by any participant in the competition. This is in accordance with Rule 1600 of the official US Figure Skating rulebook.

INFORMATION REGARDING COACHES U.S. Figure Skating Rule MR 5.11 Coach Registration In order to be granted access to work within U.S. Figure Skating sanctioned activities, each coach must complete the following requirements on an annual basis by July 1: A. Must be a current full member of U.S. Figure Skating - either through a member club or as an individual member; B. Must complete the coach registration process through the U.S. Figure Skating Members Only site, submit proper payment for the annual registration fee of $30 and, if 18 years of age or older, successfully pass the background screen. C. Must complete the appropriate CER courses (A, B, C or D) depending on the highest level of students being coached as of July 1. See rule MR 5.12. D. Must submit proof of current general liability insurance with limits of $1 million per occurrence/$5 million aggregate. For Learn to Skate USA ONLY coaches - Any person, 18 and older, instructing a Learn to Skate USA Program must have successfully passed the annual background screen, be registered as a Learn to Skate USA instructor and completed the Learn to Skate USA Instructor Certification or U.S. Figure Skating Coach Compliance. The local organizing committee/club will have a list of compliant coaches who are cleared for a credential at the competition. Coaches will need to check in at the event registration desk and show a government issued photo I.D. to receive a credential. If a coach cannot provide a photo I.D. and is not on the list or cannot produce the necessary documents, he or she will not be allowed a credential – no exceptions. We strongly urge all coaches to have their cards with them. Non-credentialed coaches will not be permitted in the designated coaching area at rink side during events including practice sessions. Coaching at U.S. Figure Skating events without proper registration is an ethics violation which is reported to U.S. Figure Skating and PSA. SHOWCASE This is a program with the emphasis on the entertainment value, rather than technical content. Elements to be considered in judging will be illustration of character, music interpretation, costuming (no feathers, dangling beads or other materials that may come off a costume during the performance), and audience appeal. However, skating must be the MAJOR element of the performance and of sufficient competence to support the components chosen. Vocal music is allowed. For this event, skaters must skate at their free skating test level unless otherwise noted. Props are optional. Skaters must carry their own props on and off the ice. For this event, male skaters may be placed in with female skaters depending on number of entries.

TEAM SHOWCASE

A group showcase will consist of between 2-4 skaters. A creative routine is skated, which may include props, to illustrate a theme, tell a story or interpret the music. Skaters may enter only one event at the highest test level of the skaters in the group. One mark will be given. Judges may or may not be US Figure Skating or Skate Canada judges. Group showcase numbers are considered as entertainment and will be judged in the following areas: music interpretation, audience appeal, skating performance, choreography and costume. No feathers or dangling beads that may come off the costume are allowed. Thirty seconds are allotted for the placing of props other than hand held. Skater’s choice of music. Vocals may be used.

MUSIC INTERPRETATION

Skaters may enter only one event level, either at their free skating level or one level up. Music is supplied by the competition committee. Music will be played for the competitors during warm-up. Skaters will be judged on originality, musical and artistic expression and ice coverage. No costumes or props allowed. Technical elements will be judged only on their appropriateness to the music. Judges may or may not be US Figure Skating judges or Skate Canada judges. Coaching is not allowed after the event has started.

FOOTWORK

Skaters perform footwork sequences of their own design to music of their choice. The program should contain a variety of turns and sequences that emphasize the skater’s controlled edges and turns in addition to speed and quickness of the routine. The program may contain one-half rotation jumps and spins with fewer than three revolutions. The routine will be judged on both technical merit and presentation.
