fter 60 years Charlie Battery and the 3rd/71st is still remembered A and honored by the people who we helped recover from their nightmare experience. Last April, 2018, the Heilbronner Stimme Newspa- per featured an article remembering our Charlie Battery, Kleingartach, featured here on pages 3, in German, and page 4 the English translation.

The German people have faced their history, made changes, and have insured that it is all passed on to future generations. They know what America did for them and they are GRATEFUL and APPRECIATIVE. They have worked hard and are now prosperous and have created a beautiful country and functional Democracy that has stuck...! They learned from us, and took the ball and ran with it, so to speak. And they remember...!

Many of us made wonderful and lasting friendships, and I hope with our website those connections will continue. I know that photos we have presented on the site have helped them remember their neighborhood. Most did not have cameras, as their main thoughts were of just surviv- ing, rebuilding, and modernization. Now there is time to look back and reflect on just how they have come and realize their accomplishments.

The reason why I am saying this is that we also need to remember that we made a difference, and all should be aware, remember, and be proud of it. Whether it was the Schnitzels we bought, or the beers we ordered, or what ever interaction we had, it was the "grease" to becoming good friends and good neighbors, as well as the economic boost our "Marks and Pfennigs" contributed.
