Insurgent Book reveiw Þórdís Ingvarsdóttir Grettisheimar 9. ERK

Insurgent is the second book in the trilogy written by . Veronica is a novelist from New York. The Divergent collection is the only set of novels from her but she also writes short stories. The title of the book Insurgent suggests nothing specific but the word represents Divergents. Insurgent is a novel. It is also a love story but it does not show that very clearly.

The story is set in US after the third world war and it shows how it destroyed the community. Tris, the main character found out in the first book some bad things about the government in the city and in the second book Insurgent she and her friends Tobias, Christina and many others are plotting to attack and save many people´s lives from war, but not all goes according to the plan. The book is about Tris and her friends trying to find a way to save the city and hide from the government at the same time. The story is told from Tris‘ point of view and it tells how a Divergent person sees the community. The main characters are Tris and Tobias who are a couple and both Divergents. Their relationship develops in the book and they become more mature throughout the story. Christina, Caleb, Marcus, Shauna, Peter, Edward and Zane are other important characters.

The theme of the book represented an unhappy childhood of the main characters and how it shaped their future personalities. It also shows how the environment turned out after the war. Everyone is unhappy with the world and that is what Tris and Tobias want to fix. The main message is that different people should not be shunned from the community just because they are different, they can do good things and many things regular people can´t do. The scenes that caught most of my attention were the ones where Tobias always saved Tris from doing something stupid and reckless that could ruin everything. The scenes that were the most boring were the ones where Marcus was doing something or planning to do something that could ruin the chance for Tris and the others to take out the government. My favorite character is Tobias because he is so caring for Tris and he sees what is wrong with the community and found out a way to save it.

I think the book was a bit long but very exciting and gave the right message in the end. I really recommend this book for reading. It mostly appeals to teenage girls but it is totally worth reading.
