It will refer to different levels of fame and how certain challenges are present within those levels. Oftentimes the general public is not aware of the degree to which musicians face stress from their line of work. Conflict with bandmates, record labels, and sometimes the public often compound other issues musicians are already dealing with. The pressures of touring and low income can be emotionally draining for many. -
Foo Fighters, "Wasting Light,"
Rebirth of Garage Rock: Foo Fighters Wasting Light By: Andrew Russell for Dr. O’Donnell, July 10, 2013 English 1010 - Essay 3 - Revision Andrew Russell is pursuing his undergraduate degree in Construction Engineering at East Tennessee State University. After spending nearly a decade of playing music full time with many different bands, he decided to go back to school. Because touring this beautiful country playing music wasn’t paying the bills. Album: Foo Fighters Wasting Light Released: April 12, 2011 Studio: Dave Grohl's garage in Encino, Los Angeles, California Label: RCA Producer: Butch Vig # of Tracks: 11 Time: 47:53 Formats: CD, Double Vinyl Record, and Digital Download It was mid-April of 2011; I was fully engulfed in a very difficult semester in college. It was a beautiful day outside, and I had been spending most of my time in various labs, studying physics and doing projects within my engineering major. The semester just seemed to linger on and the workload was not getting any easier. As I was leaving campus from a physics exam, I got into my 10-year-old BMW and found a sweet surprise from my wife; she had apparently driven around campus, located my parked car, and left this present for me on the front seat. She had ordered the new Foo Fighters record for me that I had talked about for weeks. It was a pre order from the band and even had a little bit of the tape they had used to record the album. Wasting Light was recorded entirely on old-school 2-inch analog tape. -
HAPPY FOO YEAR: “NO SON of MINE” SECOND TRACK from FORTHCOMING 10Th ALBUM out NOW MEDICINE at MIDNIGHT AVAILABLE for PRE-ORD
HAPPY FOO YEAR: “NO SON OF MINE” SECOND TRACK FROM FORTHCOMING 10th ALBUM OUT NOW MEDICINE AT MIDNIGHT AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER AT http://foofighters.co/MAM Foo Fighters are ringing in 2021—literally—with the ear-ringing new “No Son of Mine.” The second track to be revealed from the band’s forthcoming 10th album Medicine at Midnight (out February 5th on Roswell Records/RCA Records), “No Son of Mine” is now available to stream or download, or as an instant grat track with pre-orders placed at foofighters.co/MAM “No Son of Mine” ignites the second half of Medicine at Midnight with a lightning strike of a riFF that builds into the album’s most full-on barnstormer. Replete with nods to familiar FF influences from Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy” to Ace of Spades/Iron Fist-era Motörhead to Metallica's Kill ‘Em All, “No Son of Mine” features a streamlined, minimalist chassis of searing Grohl, Smear and Shiflett licks atop a steel-trap-tight Hawkins/Mendel rhythmic frame. "This is the kind of song that just resides in all of us and if it makes sense at the time, we let it out,” Grohl explains, adding, "Lyrically it’s meant to poke at the hypocrisy of self-righteous leaders, people that are guilty of committing the crimes they’re supposedly against…” Medicine at Midnight is produced by Greg Kurstin and Foo Fighters, engineered by Darrell Thorp and mixed by Mark “Spike” Stent, and packs the following nine songs into a tight-ass 37 minutes: Making a Fire Shame Shame Cloudspotter Waiting on a War Medicine at Midnight No Son of Mine Holding Poison Chasing Birds Love Dies Young Foo Fighters are Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, and Rami Jaffee. -

Jay-Z, Foo Fighters and Mary J. Blige Among Rock Hall Nominees

Blige, Iron Maiden and the Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti are all first-time nominees for the 36th annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, the hall announced on Wednesday. They lead a group of 16 nominees, including several who have received nods at least twice before: Devo, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine and Todd Rundgren. After many complaints that the hallʼs hundreds of inductees over the years have been overwhelmingly white and male, this yearʼs ballot is its most diverse yet. Seven of the 16 nominees are female acts, and nine feature artists of color. Women on the ballot include the Go-Goʼs and Dionne Warwick — both receiving their first nods — along with Kate Bush, Carole King, Chaka Khan and Tina Turner. This yearʼs induction ceremony is planned for the fall in Cleveland, home of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. To some extent, the latest crop of nominees extends a pattern that has taken hold over the last half-decade or so, with a handful of alt-rock heroes and rap gods as all-but-guaranteed sure things; Foo Fighters and Jay-Z have just crossed the hallʼs eligibility threshold of 25 years since the release of their first commercial recordings. -
Everything Could Never Be This Real
Everything Could Never Be This Real E. Kristin Anderson Sometime in 1998 I watched Dave Grohl fumble with a pile of firewood as it turned into nun chucks so he could rescue his girlfriend/drummer from a pair of rockabilly axe murderers in the sort of lucid dream of a music video that reflected all too closely my Foo Fighters lucid dreams. I held close the wonder, as sleep had always been difficult for me, a source of anxiety that won’t fit in my hands. “Everlong” Sometime in 1998 I walked into Newberry Comics, sucked in the smell of incense and The Colour and the alternative records, and with the deep shame that only a teenager can feel, my best friend Shape and I bought two copies of The Colour and the Shape, wondering if the two cashiers who 05/1997 checked us out had noticed our identical purchases. We felt like reverie, CDs in paper Roswell / Capitol bags, money gone, Dave Grohl’s voice pinging down our spines as if he were still trying to answer the telephone. Sometime in 1998 I read the blue and red liner notes over and over until I could see the words on the backs of my eyelids—words like a waking slumber that filled me up in the way only a poem can. These were my poems, and every time I read them I saw some new specter of truth. This was the sort of force that not only filled my belly, but filled stadiums. I tried to figure out why Dave Grohl chewed gum while he sang.
