The Final Four was played at the National Arena in Columbus, Ohio. This is the third time the women's Final Four has been played in Ohio since previously taking place in Cincinnati in 1997 and Cleveland in 2007 and the first time the women's Final Four has been played in Columbus. For only the fourth time in the tournament's 37-year history, all four number one seeds entered the Final Four (1989, 2012, 2015). Tennessee continued its record streak to make every NCAA women's basketball tournament with 37 consecutive appearances. Connecticut also continued its record-breaking 11- game winning streak in the Final Four. The 2018 NCAA Tournament schedule and the first two rounds, also called subregional, were played on the sites of the top 16 seeds, as was done in 2016 and 2017. The approach used between 1982 and 2002 has been at the heart of the subregionals; Sixteen of the best teams selected in the bracket selection process spent the first two rounds on campus. A total of 64 teams took part in the 2018 tournament. 32 automatic team bids were given to the teams that won their conference tournament. The other 32 teams received major bids, which were extended by the NCAA Selection Committee. The selection committee also sowed the entire field from 1 to 64.
