COLORADO MIKE MACINTYRE – HEAD COACH • Entering his sixth season at Colorado, MacIntyre owns a 25-38 overall record and 12-33 mark in Conference play. • Crowned 2016 Pac-12 South Champions for Colorado’s first Pac-12 divisional title and recorded its first 10-win season since 2001 (10-3) to earn Pac-12 Coach of the Year. • The 2016 squad tied with five others programs for the most improved team in the nation overall and was the league’s most improved all-time in Pac-12 Conference league games. • CU made the final rankings for the first since 2002 finishing at No. 10 in the CFP, No. 15 in the Coaches Poll and No. 17 in the AP polls in 2016. • Earned eight National Coach of the Year awards in 2016 from Associated Press, Walter Camp, Bobby Dodd, ESPN/Home Depot, FWAA/ Eddie Robinson, AFCA, SB Nation and Scout.com. • Became the second coach since 1932 ( 1995) to win his first game at CU with the 41-27 win over Colorado State in 2013. • Before returning to college ball at San Jose State in 2010, MacIntyre spent five seasons in the NFL as a defensive backs coach for the (2007) and the (2003-06). • Graduated from Georgia Tech in 1989, lettered at free safety and punt returner and played for his dad at Vanderbilt for two years prior. • Graduated with a B.A. in business management and received his master’s in education with an emphasis in sports management from Georgia in 1991. He is currently incredibly involved with the AFCA/Jason Foundation Ambassador, which works to spread awareness of the problem of youth suicide. STEVEN MONTEZ – JUNIOR QB • Started all 12 games last season and completed 60.5 percent of his 377 pass attempts, the fifth most attempts in CU single-season history to earn 2017 All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. • Selected to the 2018 Maxwell Award Watch List, Montez has the opportunity to become the first Buff to win the award. • CU’s second leading rusher last season with 338 yards and three touchdowns. • Threw for 2,975 passing yards and 18 touchdowns last season, which rank as the third most and tied for the seventh most in school history, respectively. • Owns the Colorado record for most consecutive pass attempts without being intercepted (172 in 2017). • First Colorado to record three-straight 300-yard passing games, totaling four last season, and set a new program record for games with over 400 yards of total offense in a season (3). • After posting 251 yards versus Arizona, he surpassed 2,500 career passing yards to become the 14th Buffalo to reach that milestone. • In 22 career games (15 starts), he ranks ninth in school history with 3,992 passing yards. • Was one of eight selected as Manning Award Stars of the Week, Davey O’Brien Award pegged him as one of the “Great 8” players of the week, and named honorable mention National Player of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards for his performance in the win over California. • Born in Oakland, Calif., Montez studies NFL greats with his dad, Alfred Montez, who will break down his game film throughout the sea son. Alfred Montez played one season in the NFL with the Raiders and was a quarterbacks coach at Texas Tech & Western New Mexico. • Majoring in Strategic Communications and seeking a minor in Technology Arts & Media, one of Montez goals is to be a good role model for his younger brother. RICK GAMBOA – SENIOR ILB • Gamboa earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention in 2017 after leading the Buffs in snaps played (847) and finished second in tackles (117). • Selected team captain for the second consecutive season to become the 14th player in school history to be named a captain twice. • Started all 12 games at middle linebacker last year and has made 37 consecutive starts out of 39 career games at CU. • Posted four games with 10 or more tackles for the second most on the team. • Ranks 19th in school history with 292 career tackles and needs only 108 tackles to become the sixth player in Colorado history with 400+ career tackles. • Presented with CU’s Dave Jones Award, an honor given to the team’s outstanding defensive player and selected to the Colorado Chapter/NFF College Football Hall of Fame All-Colorado Team. • Gamboa had 96 tackles in 2015, which set a new school record for most tackles by a redshirt freshman. • In 2018 spring ball, he was given the Award for outstanding leadership for the second year in a row, an award that is determined by the coaching staff. • Gamboa is from Sylmar, Calif., and attended Chaminade College Prep. He coached his younger brother’s football team and expressed interest in becoming a coach after his playing career.
