Vicentico Valdes

Vicente Valdés Valdés (Havana, Cuba, January 10, 1921 – New York, United States, June 26, 1995) was a Cuban folk singer. Vicentico Valdés was also the younger brother of singer Alfredito Valdés, and beside him was a member of the National Septet Ignacio Piñeiro. Member of the orchestra “cosmopolitan” who ran Antonio María Romeu was also.

He also worked with Sonora Matancera, mainly playing guarachas and guaguancós such as I am not handsome (Guaracha of Reineiro Martinez) Decide mambo and bolero sweetheart. In his maturity as a singer Vicentico Valdés had his own orchestra and featured musical arrangements by René Hernández, Joe Cain and Javier Vasquez. The orchestra consisted of Alfredo Armenteros, Victor Paz, Jimmy and Pat Russo Frisaura trumpets; Jesus and Al Caunedo as Tenenbaum alto; Shelly Gold tenor sax; Dave Kurtzerm on baritone sax; Frank Anderson as pianist; Bobby Rodriguez on bass; Mervin Gold on trombone; Felix Ventura on congas; Joe Rodriguez on timbales and Jose Mangual on bongos. In the choir were Chivirico Dávila and Felo Brito.
