NAGAGrappling(NoͲGi)Rules Wrestlingishumankindsoldestsport.Throughouthistorythegoalof wrestlingineveryformiscontroloftheopponent.Forthousandsofyears, thiscontrolhasbeenrecognizedinthreedistinctwaysͲPinning,throwing, andsubmission.Folkstyle,Freestyle,andGrecoallendwithapin.Judoand Samboendwithathrow.Butthegreatestexhibitionofcontrolofallsports isforcingyouropponenttoconsciouslysubmit.Itisthisstandardbywhich NAGAcontestsareinstantlywon. ThefirstOlympicshadtwoformsofwrestling,matchesendedbyathrow, andmatchesendedbyasubmission.GrecoͲRomanwrestlingcomesnot fromtheancientOlympics,butratherfromformsofwrestlingpracticedin Franceinthe1800s.NAGAleadsinatraditionthathasbeenpracticesince timeimmemorial. Towardsthegoalofsubmission,playersgenerallytrytotaketheother playerdown,controlhimontheground,furtherthecontrol,andthenforce theopponenttosubmit.Asdetailedbelow,intheabsenceofasubmission, NAGArefereesaredirectedtodetermineviapointswhichplayerwas closesttogettingontop,gettingcontrol,andgettingsubmission.However, playersshouldnotplaypointsrather,theyareencouragedtotryto submittheopponent. NoͲGiPointsareawardedforthefollowing: Takedown 1or2Points Sweep 2Points SideControl 2Points Mount 2Points SubmissionAttempt 1or2Points IftheTakedownorSubmissionAttemptisnotdecisive,full,andstrong,one pointcanbeawardedbythereferee. NoͲGiPointDefinitionsandDescriptions TakeDownPoints: Inawardingtwopoints,therefereeisdirectedtolookforthefollowing: Theplayermustinitiatethetakedown; Theinitiatingplayermustexhibitrestrainingcontrol; Theinitiatingplayermustbeontop(higherthanthebottomplayer). Ifaplayerfailstoexecuteafullandstrongtakedownasdefinedabove,one pointcanbeawarded. Observation3:Ifyoutaketheotherplayerdownbyjumpingontheirback andendupinBackMountfacingup,youareawardedtwopointsforthe takedown.YoualsoreceivetwomoreMountpoints. Observation4:Ifyouexecuteahipthrowandenduponbottom,onlyone takedownpointisawarded.Iftheotherplayerendsupinsidecontrolor mount,twopointsareawardedforthecontrol(butnotforthe reversal/takedown).Iftheplayertakendownuseshisguardtosweepthe otherplayerover,twopointswillbeawardedforthesweep. Observation5:Aplayercaninitiateatakedownasacountertoanalready initiatedtakedown.Beingthefirsttoinitiateatakedowndoesnot guaranteethatonlytheoriginallyinitiatingplayercangettwopoints. Observation6:AfullIpponhipthrowwheretheinitiatingplayerends standingwhiletheotherplayerisflatonhisbackorsideisnotawarded twopoints(inSamboorJudoitwouldbematchending)asnocontrolis established.Inthissituation,onepointisgenerallyawarded. Observation7:InordertoachieveRestrainingControl,youhavetoachieve apositionforasufficientdurationtoinitiatepassingguard,tofurther control,toinitiateasubmissionattempt,ortootherwisefurtheryour game.Thisisgenerallyafteroneortwoseconds. Observation8:Takingaplayerdownandlettinghimup,onlytotakehim downagainwillnotresultinfurthertakedownpoints. Observation13:Itisnotpermittedtopullguard,orbuttflopwithoutfirst makingcontactwiththeopponent.Sittingdownwithoutcontactis concedingthetakedown,andresultsinonepointbeingawardedtothe standingplayer. SweepPoints: Whenacompetitoronthebottomofanyguardisabletoreversethe positionandendupontopofhisopponent,2Pointsareawarded. Observation1:Asweepisbydefinitiononlyapplicableifstartedinanytype ofguardposition.Areversalisexecutedfrompositionsotherthanthe guardandreceivesnopoints.However,ifareversalendsupwiththetop playerinsomeformofsidecontrol,thentwopointsareawarded.The2 pointshoweverareawardedforthesidecontrol,andnotforthereversal. Observation2:Theopponentcanbelyingonhisback,sideorstomachto receivetwoPointsforthemountposition. Observation3:Onekneeandonefootonthegroundwillstillbe consideredthemountposition.Twofeetonthegroundisnotconsidered themount. Observation4:Thecompetitorinthe(front)mountedpositioncanhave onekneeoverhisopponentsarm,butneverbothtoreceivemountpoints.
