The Mukilteo Community Orchestra will be performing a free children’s concert featuring Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev’s musical story Peter and the Wolf on November 6.

We are hosting an Art Contest for children in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. We encourage you to use your imagination and create your own depiction of the story in whatever medium (crayon, pencil, marker, paint, decoupage, digital art, etc.) you like.

Peter and the Wolf is a story about young Peter who is staying at his grandfather’s house in the forest. During his adventures there, he meets many different animals: a bird, a duck, and a cat. Peter’s grandfather worries about Peter being out in the meadow for fear that a wolf might come out of the forest. Peter claims that he is not afraid of wolves, and goes out against his grandfather’s will. When a wolf does come out of the forest, Peter must work with his animal friends to defeat the .

The story is told by a narrator and the orchestra. Each character is represented by a different instrument.

 Artwork must be created on an 8.5x11” sheet of paper  There will be a total of six winners – one from each grade – and from those six, there will be an overall “grand prize” winner  The grand prize winner’s art piece will be featured on our concert program and in all advertising posters!  All submitted art pieces will be displayed at our fall concerts  Deadline to turn in artwork is Monday, October 3, 2016.  Submission sites are the Mukilteo Library (4675 Harbour Pointe Blvd, Mukilteo) and Rosehill Community Center (304 Lincoln Ave, Mukilteo)  Questions?
