DIVISION II/III PLAYER OF THE WEEK FRANK QUINTANA • Felician College SR • 1B • Miami, FL/South Miami Frank Quintana is the NJCBA Player of the Week after batting .550 (11-20), slugging 1.250, and tallying a .735 on-base percentage while leading the Golden Falcons to a 5-1 week in CACC play. In six games, had two doubles, four homers, scored 14 runs, and drove in 13 RBIs, while walking 11 times (three intentional) with three hit by pitches. Quintana, who did not strike out in 34 plate appearances, broke the school career record for RBI (146) on April 30 and the single-season RBI record (59) on May 5. In a 13-12, 12-inning loss to Dominican on April 30, he was 3-for-4 with five RBIs, a grand slam, two runs and three walks. In a 13-1 and 12-0 sweep of on May 3, he was a combined 4-for-7 with four RBIs and three runs, with one homer and one double. In an 11-4 and 15-10 sweep of University of the Sciences on May 5, he was a combined 4-for-8 with seven runs, three RBIs, two homeruns and two walks.

DIVISION II/III PITCHER OF THE WEEK BLAKE ORTIZ • THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY SR • RHP • Swedesboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic Blake Ortiz is the NJCBA Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after going 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in two appearances, with six strikeouts and only two walks as both a starter and a reliever, helping TCNJ win its third consecutive NJAC championship. In 11.1 innings, he allowed only two earned runs and seven hits. On May 3, in the opening game of the NJAC Tournament, he tossed a complete game four-hitter in the Lions’ 6-1 win over . He fanned four and walked only two in the game, allowing no earned runs. In TCNJ’s 8-7 win over in the NJAC final on May 7, he allowed two runs and three hits in 2.1 innings of relief, with two strikeouts. On the 2007 season, he is 6-1 with a 2.08 ERA in 60.2 innings, and leads the Lions with 48 strikeouts.

DIVISION II/III ROOKIE PLAYER OF THE WEEK RICHARD MELENDEZ • Felician College FR • IF • Miami, FL/South Miami Richard Melendez is the NJCBA Rookie Player of the Week for the second time this year after batting .429 (12-for-28) with seven RBIs and five doubles in six games as Felician went 5-1 in CACC play. Melendez played second base, shortstop and third base for the Golden Falcons. He hit safely in five of six games, scored in five games, and had a double in each of his last five games during the week. In an 11-4 and 15-10 sweep of University of the Sciences on May 5, he was a combined 7-for-9 with three RBIs, two doubles and two runs. He was 4-for-5 with two RBIs in the second game. In a 13-1 and 12-0 sweep of Bloomfield College on May 3, Melendez went 3-for-9 with four RBIs, two doubles and one run. He was also 2-for-4 with a double and run scored in Felician’s 9-7 decision against Nyack. DIVISION II/III ROOKIE PITCHER OF THE WEEK JOE BARTLINSKI • KEAN UNIVERSITY FR • RHP • South Amboy, NJ/South Amboy Joe Bartlinski is the NJCBA Rookie Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 for the Cougars to improve his record to 5-0 on the season. In a 10-6 win over New Jersey City University on April 30, he allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings, fanning six and walking four. In a 13-4 win over Rowan University in the NJAC Tournament Semifinals on May 6, he kept the Cougars alive in the championship event by fanning 12 batters in eight innings for the win. He allowed three runs and seven hits, walking three during the game.

DIVISION II/III NOTEBOOK FELICIAN COLLEGE • With a 5-1 week, all in CACC play, Felician qualified for the CACC Tournament, tying for second place with a 10-6 league mark and earning the No. 3 seed in the four-team event. • Felician hit .372 and averaged 12.0 runs and 15.3 hits per game in its six games last week. • Senior first baseman Frank Quintana became the school's all-time RBI leader, passing former teammate Mike Rooth with a grand slam during an Apr. 30 loss at Dominican. Quintana has 146 career RBI; Rooth had 136 from 2003-06. On Saturday, Quintana broke Rooth's single-season RBI record with his 59th. • Quintana joined Rooth as the only members of Felician's 200-hit club during Game 2 on Thursday against Bloomfield. In Game 1, senior outfielder Ray Rose joined Quintana and senior outfielder Kenny Vanderhee as active members of the school's 150-hit club. Rooth is the career hit leader with 210. • Freshman pitcher Kevin Ernst picked up his first career victory on Thursday, tossing six shutout innings in Game 2 vs. Bloomfield. • The Golden Falcon pitching staff strung together 27 consecutive innings without a walk on Thursday and Saturday. • Junior pitcher Nick Riker threw Felician's first complete game of the season in Game 1 vs. Philadelphia Sciences on Saturday. Freshman IF Richard Melendez went 7 for 9 in the twinbill, and sophomore catcher Jordan Noval was 5 for 5 with a double, homer, and six RBI in Game 2. In Game 2, the Golden Falcons used a season-high 21 players. Sophomore pitcher Anthony Spina and freshman pitcher Jeff Calabrese each broke Spina's school record for appearances with their 22nd. Spina also played two innings at second base and had a two-run double. NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY • Junior shortstop JOSE FULGENCIO (Bronx, NY/San Rafael, Dominican Republic) finished the year with the longest hitting streak in Division III this season—a school record 27 consecutive games. Fulgencio, who hit safely in 36 of NJCU’s 37 games this year and reached base by hit or walk in all 37 contests, saw his streak begin on March 25, and it never ended in his first season as a Gothic Knight. • Fulgencio, the nephew of former major leaguer and and Yankees shortstop Rafael Santana finished the year as the team’s leading hitter at .418 (59-for-141), starting all 37 games. He drove in 44 RBIs, primarily as NJCU’s No. 3 hitter, scored 34 runs, and collected 22 extra base hits—14 doubles, five triples and three homeruns. Additionally, he was 20-for-22 in steals, and struck out only 12 times. Combined with seven walks and two hit by pitch and four sacrifices, he fanned in only 7.8 percent of all plate appearances. He posted a .652 slugging percentage and .447 on-base rate with 92 total bases. • Fulgencio proved to be a solid fielder, he committed only 14 errors in 205 chances at shortstop, fielding .932 overall. Last year, NJCU has 29 errors at the position. He had a single-season school record 132 assists, adding 59 putouts, and helped turn 23 double plays. • Fulgencio led the Knights in batting, hits, RBIs, doubles, triples and total bases, and was second in runs, steals and homers. His 44 RBIs were second most in single-season NJCU history—four shy of matching the 1988 record of 48. His 59 hits were tied for second on the list, while he was tied for fourth all-time in doubles, games started and double plays turned, and fifth in total bases. • Junior centerfielder ROB SUMNER (Union, NJ/Union) finished the season by scoring his 45th run, marking the second straight year he has tallied that many runs after setting the school single-season record with 46 in 2005. He is NJCU’s all- time leader in the category at 136. He finished the year with 79 career steals—one shy of tying Zaffarano’s career record of 79. ROWAN UNIVERSITY • Rowan finished the regular season with a 23-17 overall record. • The Profs reached the fourth round of the NJAC Championship Tournament. • Sophomore third baseman Tom Ready (Blenheim, NJ/Triton Reg.) led the team with a .358 batting average, 12 doubles and 29 RBIs. He also had 28 runs scored. Ready was selected to the NJAC All-Conference first team. Junior catcher Bobby Fox (Ocean Twp., NJ/Ocean Twp.) hit .280 with 14 RBIs and 10 runs scored. Fox earned NJAC All-Conference second team honors. • Sophomore shortstop Tim Barnshaw (Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick) hit .333 and senior right fielder Tim Edmeads (Newfield, NJ/Buena Reg.) followed with a .328 average. Edmeads also had 28 RBIs and 21 runs scored. Junior center fielder Roger Turley (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) contributed a .315 batting average, a team-high 30 runs scored, 16 RBIs and nine doubles. • Junior lefthander Gary Winkler (Glendora, NJ/Paul VI) finished the season with a 1.80 ERA and 38 strikeouts. Junior lefty Ryan Kulik (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had a 3.48 ERA with a team-high 77 strikeouts. Junior lefthander Joe Cichy (Vineland, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) led the Profs with six victories. He posted a 3.86 ERA and 49 strikeouts. Senior closer Tyler Dempsey (Haddon Heights, NJ/Haddon Heights) totaled six saves, while sophomore Kevin O'Hara (Clayton, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) had four. RUTGERS-CAMDEN • Rutgers-Camden finished its season at 15-24 overall and 2-16 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference after going 1-1 in a season-ending split doubleheader May 1 at Campbell’s Field. In an afternoon makeup game, the Scarlet Raptors dropped a 12-6 decision to William Paterson University in their final NJAC contest. In the Senior Night game later that day, Rutgers-Camden honored seven seniors in Butch Amato (Haddon Heights, NJ/Paul VI), Nate Buchter (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional), Greg Galbraith (Westville, NJ/Gateway Regional), Mike Morris (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township), Jason Ronca (Eastampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional), Tom Terrill (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township), and Mark Wickersham (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson). One of those seniors, Galbraith, went out and hurled a five-hit shutout in a 6-0 victory over Delaware Valley College in the final game of the year. The contest was stopped after six innings by lightning. Galbreath walked two and struck out two as he finished his senior season 1-0 with a 3.29 ERA, pitching the only shutout on the staff this season. • Three of those seniors contributed to the Raptors’ three-run third inning against Delaware Valley, which started with a one-out double by sophomore second baseman Dean Straga (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional). One out later, Buchter walked and stole second. The walk was his 30th of the season, setting a new program record and helping him complete his four years at Rutgers-Camden with a career-record 83 walks. The old single-season record of 29 walks was shared by Ricky Flores (2003), Chris Godish (2002) and Chris McGovern (1987). Both runners scored on a single by Amato, who was plated by a Morris double. The double allowed Morris to complete his career with exactly 200 total bases, making him the seventh player in program history to reach that mark. Buchter’s run was the 112th of his career, allowing him to tie Matt Calloway (2003-06) for third on the Rutgers-Camden program list. He also finished his career playing in 134 games, the third-highest total in program history. • Rutgers-Camden added an unearned run in the fourth inning when sophomore designated hitter Matt Gabrielski (Atco, NJ/St. Joseph-Hammonton) doubled and scored on an error. The Raptors tacked on their final two runs in the fifth when Amato singled and Morris was hit by a pitch with one out. Terrill followed with a fly ball to right field that ended up scoring Amato all the way from second base for a sacrifice fly. Gabrielski singled home Morris for the final run. Amato went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs in his 95th, and final, career game. Gabrielski went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. • In the loss to Paterson, Ronca worked eight innings, allowing 10 hits, four walks and eight runs, only one of them earned. He struck out four. Ronca ended his career with 196 innings, fourth on the program’s list, and 170 strikeouts, tying Ray Simons (1970-72) for third place. He also was fourth in at bats (737), one shy of Tom Ford (2003-06) in third place. Ronca finished his season at 3-4 despite a 3.44 ERA. • Freshman right fielder Paul Painter (Blackwood, NJ/Highland Regional) went 3-for-5 with one run and three RBIs for the Raptors, while Morris was 1-for-5 with one run and three RBIs. Freshman catcher Vince Giunta (Sewell, NJ/Clearview Regional) collected a fifth-inning single to complete his campaign with a nine-game hitting streak, the longest on the Raptors this season. STEVENS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY • Stevens finished the season with a 20-20 mark. They were one game away from capturing the Skyline Conference Championship. THE COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY • Blake Bullis led the Lions to the team’s third straight NJAC Championship. He batted .455 on the week with 10 hits, including a triple and two homeruns, eight RBI’s and was 5-5 on stolen bases on the week. Had a .818 slugging percentage on the week as well. In the championship game, he collected a two-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at 7-7 after TCNJ started the inning trailing 7-4. On the season, he now has a .328 average with 41 RBI’s, a team-best 26 stolen bases, while adding seven doubles, six triples and five homeruns. He has a .520 slugging percentage and now owns a .366 career batting average with and active TCNJ career school record 14 triples. • Bullis is just four at bats away from breaking the career mark (643), while standing one hit shy of tying the career mark of 235. He is second all-time with 51 career doubles, 163 runs, 4th in homeruns (28), RBI’s (170), 7th in stolen bases (55), and 5th in games played (160).
