Please see next page for more space Description & production timetable continued…

SEF will offer a range of opportunities for the public and communities to engage and experience this celebration of community creativity and the bicycle. There will be four principle event experiences:

1) Cavalcade Finale: A one day Sheffield city centre cavalcade finale - “Sheffield En Fête” - held on the penultimate day of the Cultural Festival. Featuring a car-free road between and Barkers Pool for participants to display their decorated , clothing and accessories in cavalcade – creating a vibrant visual expression of celebration, community creativity and cycling – with entertainment, food & drink, street market, cycling related attractions and opportunities for spectators to line the route to watch the cavalcade finale spectacle.

2) Cavalcade Workshop: 16 days of weekend workshops held in a variety of parks and green spaces around Sheffield. Featuring a 2 hour workshop on: a) how to check the mechanical safety of your bicycle; b) how to safely ride your bicycle in cavalcade and c) inspiration and guidance on creative ways to safely decorate your bicycle, clothing and accessories. Aimed at engaging new participants in the essential learning / creative expression opportunities they need to access to safely and meaningfully participate in the cavalcade finale.

Cavalcade workshops will offer a ‘DIY decorate your cycling’ kit designed and manufactured in Yorkshire using 3D printing / additive manufacturing processes, providing participants with a selection of objects and materials that can be attached to their bicycle, clothing and accessories and creatively adapted to safely decorate their cycling experience and ride in the cavalcade finale.

Cavalcade workshops will also feature selected cycling activities and attractions to suit the topography of the location and surrounding areas including downhill , leisure cycling routes, off trails, bicycle powered machines, pedal car racing and bicycle-parts gravity car racing.

‘Float’ cavalcade workshops during holiday periods will target young people living in areas near to the Tour route and also offer workshops focusing on the creation of 3 visually themed trike- mounted floats to lead and tail the cavalcade finale.

‘Hosted’ cavalcade workshops will be hosted by selected events and festivals taking place during the Grand Départ calendar to benefit from raised profile and cross-promotion opportunities.

3) Countdown Event: A late afternoon / early evening event marking the 100, 50 and 21 day countdown points during the Grand Départ. Featuring cycling attractions plus sound, light and projections. Aimed at raising the profile of SEF with the press, media and the wider public.

4) Pop Up Event: Weekend daytime events held in a variety of high footfall Sheffield city centre public spaces. Featuring a high visibility trike-mounted mobile display promoting the SEF and opportunities to participate. Aimed at creating an easily accessible physical location for potential and existing cavalcade finale participants to informally meet up and share working examples, ideas and plans for decorating bicycles and riding in the cavalcade finale.

The Pop Up Event experience will also be available for booking to community locations (schools, youth groups, community centres, churches etc.) and other promotional opportunities still to be confirmed within the Grand Départ. Description & production timetable continued…
