The BBC Switchover Help Scheme has now helped more than a million over-75s and disabled people to prepare to go digital. Around six million more eligible people across the UK are expected to benefit from the scheme before the last analogue signal is switched off in less than a year’s time. In the run-up to switchover in each region, the help scheme offers practical help to convert one TV set to digital. Most people are asked to contribute £40 towards the switch. The work has involved more than 500 help scheme installers driving around six million miles to date, but chief executive of the White City-based help scheme, Peter White, said the one million milestone had been reached through partnerships.

Collaboration ‘Our close collaboration with charities, volunteer organisations and community supporters means we’ve been able to reach a significant number of isolated eligible people who might otherwise not have responded to our offer for help. ‘We’re hugely grateful to everyone who has worked with us and to those who continue to do so,’ he said.
