in the classrooms? K/1/2 News

In Week 1 of this term we planted some little seeds as part of our science experiment based on the needs of living things. We had a control which had water, air, soil, space and light. Each group tested whether their seed would grow without one of its need. The groups observed their seeds changes over 5 weeks. Here is what we discovered: All the seeds sprouted except no water and no air. The no light plant was the tallest but was also a different colour. It was white/yellow. The no light plant also had smaller leaves than the other plants that had grown. Goolgowi started the second term well again with some good metres gained by fullback James Fallon, as well as forwards Ben McRae, Jake Melvin and Ethan Byrne, but it was Alex Brown that was leading from the front with some barnstorming runs. Goolgowi had a mountain of defence to get through for most of the second half as Rankins Springs enjoyed most of the possession courtesy of 8 consecutive penalties. Some punishing defence again from prop Nick Johnson, as well as replacement forwards Rory Brown, Jeremy Young and the Weber brothers made the Springs work hard for their next 4 pointer. At 16-8 Goolgowi had more defending to do, and when they finally had possession almost scored through winger Vaughn Higgins but the wayward pass went to ground. More attack from Rankins Springs tested the Goolgowi line and on the last tackle of a set in the last 5 minutes a high ball taken by winger Damian McPherson wrapped it up for the Rabbitohs, even though Todd McCarten was able to score his second out wide on the Newsletter Sponsors siren for the Dragons. Alex Brown, Ben McRae and Nick Johnson (who picked up the mug) were the best up front, while halves Brad Turner, and Danny Graham steered the ship well, and Chris Smith had a good stint in the centres. The win for Goolgowi sets up a top of the table clash with Ivanhoe here in a fortnight’s time for our 90th anniversary round.
