Hills and Mountains

The land of Moriah is dotted with hills and mountains. On one of these mountains, Abraham recognized the God whom he had worshipped as Jehovah Jireh. God who did not allow Isaac to be sacrificed allowed a ram to be offered in his place. When God was so kind, loving and affectionate to His friend Abraham that he did not allow his friend to sacrifice his son Isaac, why did He allow His only son Jesus tobe sacrificed on Golgotha? Paul says, “But God has shown us how much He loves us, in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us” – Romans 5:8 I had the privilege of undertaking God’s ministry in many mountainous places where I shared God’s words. When I was a trainee with FMPB, I had the great blessing of fasting and praying for three days in Jehovah Jireh, our first field in May, 1982 which provided me compassion and peace. Hills indeed do provide us great experiences. For devotion and peace of mind, people do flock to the hills. Salem, the city of mangoes has a hilly place, i.e. Bethel. Here, prayer warriors gather annually for the annual state camp. Inside Bethel is a place called Kalvarimedu on a small hill where a large cross has been erected. People stricken with grief, fear and mental tension visit this place and pray that they may experience lasting peace. While Jesus died on the hill of Golgotha, people were panic stricken and grief was writ large on their faces. When they heard about His resurrection, their joy knew no bounds. They shared this Good News with all others they came across. Are we not duty bound to share this great news with others so that they all shall know about Jesus through “Giant Leap”? -J. Solomon
