Key note speakers

David Carry () Aberdonian David Carry is a former Team and Team GB swimmer, having competed in 3 Olympic Games and 3 . He has medalled at Commonwealth and European levels, collecting 2 gold medals from the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006 (individual freestyle and individual medley).

David who has recently completed a masters in Coaching, now works as a Business Coach with Red Sky Management and is an accomplished speaker.

Ewen Cameron (sportscotland) Ewen has been a Partnership Manager within the Coaching and Volunteering team at sportscotland since 2009. He previously spent seven years as the Education and Development Manager for scottishathletics during which time he was the national lead for coach education and development.

This role saw him introduce and establish the International Festival of Athletics Coaching (IFAC) as one of the largest and most prestigious events in the world for athletics coaches with attendances of over 400 domestic and international coach delegates.

Now at sportscotland, Ewen works with 13 governing bodies to support the coaching teams with planning and investment, and leads on a number of national projects including multi skills development and performance athlete transition to coaching.

Psychology: Motivation & Goal Setting - Dave Young Having worked in further education for many years as a college lecturer delivering sports coaching related topics, Dave has furthered his own educational attainment in recent years by successfully completing an MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology. He is now working towards accreditation through the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) which requires him to gain practical experience in various sport and exercise settings.

Coaching Children - Kerry MacPhee Kerry has a BSc (hons) in Physical Education and is a Level 2 qualified Triathlon coach. She has been instrumental in growing the junior section of Stirling Triathlon Club, as well as introducing children’s triathlon camps to the University of Stirling Sports Participation Programme. Kerry now works with Beaconhurst School supporting their aspirations to make triathlon one of their beacon sports. Kerry was also the 2011 triathlonscotland Children’s Coach of the year.

Coaching Paratriathletes - Janice Eaglesham Janice was a founder member and coach at Red Star Athletics club (a club for athletes with a disability) for over twenty years and has coached a variety of athletes with a disability including one Paralympic medallist. She has worked in the field of disability sport for nearly thirty years and after taking early retirement from full time employment, now works extensively for Scottish Disability Sport delivering disability inclusion training to a variety of audiences.

Long Course Nutrition - Joel Enoch Based in Edinburgh, Joel has a background in sport science (BSc), nutrition (MSc), was a member of the Lucozade Sport Science Team and runs his own sport nutrition education business (joelenoch.com). He is the nutrition feature writer for H2Open Magazine and has also competed for the GB age group team at World and European Triathlon Championships. Joel's blend of theoretical and practical knowledge means he is particularly well placed to address the practical application of sport nutrition principles.

Engaging Young People - Sam Langstaff & Catriona Morton Sam Langstaff is a Performance Gymnastics Coach and co-founder of Saltire Team Gymnastics Club. She is currently working as Regional Coaching & Volunteering Manager for sportscotland and was previously Regional Development Manager for Scottish Gymnastics. Sam has been involved in gymnastics for 25yrs years, performing at international level and coaching for the last 10yrs – now coaching the National team for Team Gym.

Catriona Morton – At only 18 years old Catriona is a Level 3 Gymnastics Coach Catriona is currently studying BSc Sport & Exercise Science at Edinburgh Napier University.

Injury Prevention in Triathlon - Kirstin Carroll Kirstin is a Chartered Physiotherapist with 11 years’ experience, specialising in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy. She currently works for the sportscotland Institute of Sport and in private practice. Kirstin is one of the Medical Team for Team Scotland for the . Kirstin has a keen personal interest in Triathlon, competing for the past 2 years and completed her first Ironman in Austria summer 2012.

Cycle Maintenance – Barry Wilson Barry Wilson has been riding road and mountain bikes for 10 years, racing for 8 years and has achieved podium places in road, XC and long distance mountain bike races both at home and abroad. Barry has 9 years bike mechanic experience and is currently employed at Glasgow’s Billy Bilsland Cycles. Previously he worked as a mechanic at Club La Santa in Lanzarote and also worked as a cycle guide on various international cycling and triathlon camps.

Successful Conflict Management - Marie-Claire Thomson How to Communication Effectively - Marie-Claire Thomson Marie-Claire is a CIPD qualified learning and development professional who specialises in facilitating sessions on leadership and soft skills development.

Practical Sessions

Running for triathlon - Alister Russell Alister Russell is a Level 3 coach and has been coaching triathlon since 1998. He was a former National Junior Coach and has worked in USA, Canada, Singapore and Switzerland. His major interest is helping triathletes run faster.

Conditioning for triathlon - Dave Leith Based in the central institute for sport, Dave works for sportscotland as a Strength and Conditioning coach. He is currently the lead Strength and Conditioning coach for Triathlon, Tennis, Basketball and Snowsports. Cycling: coaching a session in cornering and group riding - Scott Tares Scot Tares is the Director of Skinny Tyres Ltd and Head Coach of Tay Titans Cycling Club. Scott Has many qualifications in a variety of cycling disciplines including UKCC British Cycling Level 2 Road, Time Trial, Mountain Bike and Track Coach He also is Serrotta International Bike Fit Professional, mountain bike Leader, trail cycle leader and night leader has Cycling Scotland Go Mountain Bike Level 5 accreditation. Scott coached the North of Scotland Team at the UK Schools Games in 2011.

The Importance and application of performance testing in a club setting – Alan Cardwell Alan has been coaching at senior levels most of his adult life in the business environment. As head coach at Lanark, Alan has designed and delivered thousands of sessions over the last few years ensuring that anyone who is willing to participate fully enjoys triathlon to the full and improves. Alan was selected to travel to Perth, Australia, to become a fully accredited Swim Smooth coach.

Social Media and Sport: making digital work for your club – Anthony Browne (Glasgow Life) Anthony Browne is a passionate marketing professional who specialises in Digital Marketing. He has been involved in virtual community building and online marketing since 2001 through a number of roles including Scottish and Irish Marketing Manager for Waterstone’s Booksellers and his current role as the Manager of the Digital Team at Glasgow Life.

He is particularly interested in exploring new and creative ways of using technology as cost effective marketing tools and in 2008 presented a paper at the International Library Conference in Quebec, Canada on Social Media within the Public Sector. He is also a member of two cross party working groups in the Scottish Government - Culture and Media and Digital Participation.

Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) – Ian Whiteford (CRBS) Ian Whiteford has been part of the Compliance and Training Team at CRBS for the last 4 years and has been closely involved with the implementation of the PVG legislation. CRBS exists to help the voluntary sector in Scotland understand and apply the legislation regarding disclosure checks. CRBS deliver training courses all across Scotland and via the internet.
