A Message especially for Dads, but good for all.

Gift of Love

Some time ago, a friend of mine punished his three-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was tight, and he became infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, “This is for you, Daddy.” He was embarrassed by his earlier over-reaction, but his anger flared again when he found that the box was empty. He yelled at her, “Don’t you know that when you give someone a present, there’s supposed to be something inside of it?”

The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, “Oh, Daddy, it’s not empty. I blew kisses in the box. I filled it with my love. All for you, Daddy.”

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and he begged her for forgiveness. My friend told me that he kept that gold box by his bed for years. Whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.

In a very real sense, each of us as parents has been given a gold container filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children. There is no more precious possession anyone could hold. By James Dobson – from More Stories for the Heart June 15

June 16-20 – FDS - Build a house Chocowinity, North Carolina NC FDS will be traveling to Chocowinity, NC for tornado relief Monday June 16 -Friday June 20. We will be working for Mrs. Hill, who is in her 80's and was living in her home alone. Her deceased husband was a veteran. The tornadoes destroyed every building on her property; 2 storage buildings and a very nice shop were blown apart. Her home was destroyed when large pine trees fell on it. She is living with her daughter, and granddaughter, but that home is very small. The family is seeking for us to build a larger home (1450 sq. ft., 3 bedrooms, 2 baths) for all to live in so they can look after each other. Mrs. Hill is under insured, so with our help, we can build the home that she otherwise would not be able to build. The property location is in Chocowinity on Bragaw Street

YOUTH & JR.YOUTH From Jared

You th & DOGS Upcoming...

June 1st - 6th: Vacation Bible School: "Wilderness Escape"

June 12th - 22nd: Deep Creek Mission Team to Arizona

May seems to be the busiest month yet at Deep Creek in 2014. As I reflect back over the month, I recall the following blessings:

We started the month with our annual golf tournament fundraiser at Silo Run Golf Course. This day is always a blessing as so many folks contribute to its success every year. We are very thankful for all of the local businesses that sponsor us through donations and the faithful players that return every year. I am also thankful for the church members who donate food and their time to help make this a great fundraiser. This year, we raised just over $6,000, which will benefit our summer mission trip to Arizona.

The DOGS and Youth groups continued their studies on each of the twelve disciples. We looked at each of their personalities, backgrounds and callings. Each one had a unique set of characteristics that made them the twelve ordinary men that Christ transformed to carry out his earthly ministry. We also observed the very human (some might say, character flaws) traits that each possessed and how Christ used those traits to make them a part of a group that would change the world. As we looked at each of their accomplishments and their collective accomplishments, we saw that they did change the world. The disciples went from being twelve regular men to being filled with the Holy Spirit to accomplish amazing works for the kingdom of God. Because of their faith and obedience, the gospel was spread throughout the world, allowing others to come to know Christ. May we accept God's grace and follow his leading to spread the gospel to others.

With May comes the administration and preparation for Vacation Bible School. This is always an exciting time in the church as everyone pitches in to make this event a success. This year has been no different. Folks have jumped in to make sure that our children hear the message of the gospel portrayed in a fun and unique way! As always, our end goal is to spread the gospel to even our youngest in attendance. VBS is always a blessing!

We also celebrated the accomplishments of our graduates during a worship service. We see just how God has his hand on each of their lives and look forward to the plans he has for each of them. It is also a time to reflect back on how each graduate has grown up over the years, both physically and spiritually.

I am especially excited this time of year as I have worked, along with many wonderful others, to facilitate the mission trip. God spoke to me a couple of years ago about going further west for our mission trip. Through His plans and will, we have made it an act of obedience to go to Kaibito, Arizona this summer. While in Arizona, we will be completing work projects, conducting children's ministry and doing some community outreach in the Navajo community of Kaibito. God has been so evident in the planning of this trip as He has beautifully worked out all of the logistical details in His way and time. It is my hope that our team will grow closer to each other, more passionate to serving God and closer in their relationship with Christ. Our theme is Go. Follow. Do., based on Matthew 28:19, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." May His love, mercy and grace be shown through each of us! Blessings, Jared
