BLUE JACKETS NOTES CBJ’S START The Blue Jackets have opened the 2017-18 season having won 19 of their first 30 contests (19-10-1) with Columbus averaging 3.47 goals per game and 1.53 goals against in their 19 victories (including SO goals) and has allowed two goals or less in 15 of those contests, including nine of the last 10 wins. The 19 wins and 39 points in the opening 30 games are the second most in a season in club history (21-5-4, 46 points in 2016-17).

THE PAST MONTH Columbus is 10-3-0 since Nov. 11, which is tied for the most wins in the NHL during that span with the Nashville Predators (10-2-2) and Winnipeg Jets (10-4-2). The club has outscored the opposition 33-24 over that span (+9, includes SO goals). On the season, the Jackets have outscored 86-72 (+14). They are 6-1-0 in one-goal games and lead the league in penalty kill percentage over that stretch with 93.5 pct. (29-of-31).

PANARIN'S BIG NIGHT The Jackets won 5-3 at New Jersey on Friday and Artemi Panarin had a big hand in the victory, setting up each of Columbus' goals. He tied a Blue Jackets record for assists and points (fifth time) in a game, joining Espen Knutsen as the only players to record five assists in one game (Mar. 24, 2001 vs. Calgary). Panarin became the 25th player in NHL history to record at least five primary assists in a game since 1936-37 and first since Apr. 18, 1995, when Brian Leetch had five for the Rangers. He followed up his record-tying outing by adding another primary assist on the only goal of the game in Saturday’s win over Arizona. Panarin’s 19 assists rank 5th-most amongst all left wingers this season (23rd-T overall).

The Jackets are 13-3-1 when scoring the first goal this season and are sixth-T in the NHL in wins when scoring first. Dating back to last season, Columbus’ 48 wins (48-13-6) when scoring first are the second-most in the NHL, trailing Washington’s 58.

EXTRA EFFORT The Blue Jackets have posted league highs in both wins and points gained after regulation this season, going 8-0-1 (17 points) in their first nine overtime/shootout games. Columbus leads the NHL in road wins (4-0-1, tied) and ranks fourth-T in home victories (4-0-0), one behind the league leaders. Seven of the Jackets’ last 20 games have been decided in overtime/shootout with the club going 6-0-1.

PENALTIES AND KILLING The Jackets average the second-fewest penalty minutes a game (6:12) in the NHL. The club has been whistled for three penalties or less in 11 of the last 14 contests. When they have taken penalties, Columbus has been successful late, allowing just two power play goals in the past 15 contests (36 penalties) since allowing three third period power play goals at the New York Rangers on Nov. 6. The team ranks third in the NHL in penalty kill percentage at 85.7 pct. (66-of-77) and first overall at home at 95.2 pct. (40-of-42), having killed off all penalties in 15 of 16 home games.

SHOOTING GALLERY Columbus enters tonight’s game with Edmonton having outshot their opponent in 21 of the first 30 games this season, including eight of the last nine. Columbus currently sits fifth in the NHL with 34.8 shots per game and has recorded 30 or more shots in 24-of-30 contests.

HOME AT NATIONWIDE The Jackets have earned victories in six of their last seven home games, including a five-game win streak from Nov. 17-Dec. 1. Anderson recorded his team-leading 11th goal on Saturday after having his five-game point streak snapped a week earlier at Washington (3-4-7).

BOB’S IN NET Sergei Bobrovsky has won two-straight games, stopping 56-of-59 shots (.949 save percentage) and posting a 1.50 goals-against average. Werenski has 3-1-4 in the past six contests and leads all NHL defensemen with nine goals. He’s three goals shy of tying the club record for a season (Bryan Berard in 2005-06 and Jones in 2016-17). Jones had recorded assists in three- straight games (0-3-3) prior to Saturday’s win over Arizona.
