23 Jan 1845 The meeting considered the propriety of disposing of a part of the present Workhouse to Sir Charles Lemon for such purposes as he may deem proper. After fully discussing the above subject it was proposed by Mr John Sarvis, seconded by Mr William Carvosso, Senr. and unanimously resolved that the late addition to the Workhouse, being three stories high, consisting of seven rooms and forming the south‐west front of the said Workhouse, with the courtilidge, privy and offices in front thereof, be offered to Sir Charles Lemon for the sum of £75.0.0 provided the said Sir Charles Lemon will, at his own expense, make a new entrance to the first erected part or portion of the said Workhouse through the room formerly used as a pantry, and erect a new stairs, with such other divisions or partitions for the Parish benefit as may by the Churchwardens & Overseers be deemed proper.

It was further proposed by Mr Robert Rundle, seconded by Mr John Buzza and unanimously resolved that the Churchwardens & Overseers call on Sir Charles Lemon and make him acquainted with the resolution proposed at this Vestry.

06 Mar 1845 Proposed by Mr William Carvosso Senr., seconded by Mr W.B. Booth and unanimously resolved that Mr P.R. Richards of Flushing and Thos. W. Reed of Trevissome be requested to assist Mr Tresawna at Flushing in his revision [of the Poor Rate assessment] of that part of his adjustment by pointing out the separate tenements therein and that the assistant Overseer accompany them.

Proposed by Mr Robert Goodfellow, seconded Mr John Rowe Senr. of Purloe and unanimously resolved that Mr Tresawna be requested (after hearing the opinion of this Vestry on the merits of his valuation) to amend the same according to his judgement; and to duly consider whether 15 p/cent [?] may be deducted from the gross value of the Lands and that if he thinks it right to make such amendment on his valuation, he be allowed by this Vestry the additional expenses necessarily incurred for stationary.

The following persons were then proposed to serve as Constables for the ensuing year [1845], viz: Jabez Carvosso (Farmer, Trelew), John Corlyon Junr. 16 May 1845 Proposed by Mr John Bennetts, seconded by Mr S. Doble and resolved unanimously that the valuation of the Parish of Mylor prepared by Mr J. Tresawna and produced at this Vestry having been examined and approved by the Parishioners, it is requested that the Guardians of the Poor of this Parish lay it before the Board of Guardians of the Falmouth Union preparatory to its being forwarded to the Poor Law Commissioners for their examination and sanction.

Proposed by Mr Stephen Doble, seconded by Mr Robert Carvosso and unanimously resolved that the sum of five pounds by awarded to Mr J. Tresawna in additional to the sum already agreed with him. Thos. 29 May 1845 A letter from the Poor Law Commissioners received through the Board of Guardians of the Falmouth Union relative to the sale of the Mylor Workhouse having been produced and read to the Vestry; the following verbal communication made by W.H.B. Booth, Steward of Sir Charles Lemon, Bart., and at the request of the latter was made, viz. that as there appeared to be objection on the part of the Poor Law Comers. to allow the sale of a part of the Workhouse only; but that they had authorised the sale of the whole in one lot; he, Sir Charles Lemon, would on condition of the Parishioners making a surrender of the whole property to him for the sum of Seventy Five Pounds; grant the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Parish of Mylor for the time being, a new lease of the first erected part for the same lives and on the same terms as they hold it under the existing lease; and be at the sole expense of making such alterations for the future convenience of the Inmates thereof, as were agreed on between the Parishioners and himself at a former Vestry.

The Commissioners letter under the merits of Sir C. Lemons’ proposition having been fully discussed and approved by the Vestry, it was proposed by Mr Robert Goodfellow, seconded by Mr John Bennetts and unanimously resolved that the whole of the Workhouse with its appointenances be surrendered to Sir Charles Lemon for the sum of Seventy Five Pounds and on such other conditions as are proposed by him through his Steward W.H.B. Booth.

17 Jul 1845 It was resolved by a majority of such owners present in person or by proxy, and of such rate payers at such meeting: That this meeting so consent to the Guardians of the Poor of the Falmouth Union selling the premises described in the margin hereof [The interest of the Parish of Mylor in the Workhouse of the Parish with its appointenances], under the provisions of an Act passed in the sixth year of the reign of his late Majesty King William IV intituled an Act to facilitate the conveyance of Workhouses and other properties of Parishes and of incorporations or Unions of Parishes in and Wales, in such manner, and subject to such rules, orders and regulations touching such sales, the conveyance of such property, and the application of the produce arising therefrom, for the permanent advantage of the Parish, as the Poor Law Commissioners shall in that behalf direct.

13 Apr 1846 In consequence of the absence of the Vicar and the disgust entertained by the Parishioners at the written nomination sent by him to the Vestry by Mr Stephen Doble, it was put to the Vestry by the Chairman and unanimously resolved that his proposition for electing Mr Doble be rejected on the grounds of its being illegal, and that the Vestry assume to itself the right of electing both now and in the future the two persons required to fill the office of Churchwardens. It was proposed by Mr H.O. Olivey and seconded by Mr Thos. W. Reed and unanimously resolved that Mr Stephen Doble be elected to serve the office of Churchwarden for the ensuing year. Proposed by Jonathan Nicholls, seconded by Robert Carvosso and unanimously resolved that Thos. Williams Reed is elected to fill the office of Churchwarden for the ensuing year. 23 Apr 1846 It was resolved that this meeting do consent to the Guardians of the Poor of the Falmouth Union applying under the power given in an Act passed in the session held in the first and second year of the reign of her present Majesty intituled An Act to explain and amend an Act of the seventh year of his late Majesty for extending the period for the repayment of loans made under an Act passed in the 4th and 5th years of his said late Majesty for the amendment and better administration of the laws relating to the Poor in England and Wales, the sum of seventy five pounds being the produce of the sale of certain premises described in the margin thereof [the whole interest of the Parish of Mylor in the Workhouse and its appointenances of the said Parish] belonging to this Parish and sold under an order of the Poor Law Commissioners in liquidation of the sum of seventy five pounds due to Messrs Tweedy & Co, Bankers, Falmouth and secured to them by a note of hand charged on the Poor Rates of the Parish and the balance of the debit incurred by the eviction of the Workhouse, in such manner and subject to such rules and regulations as the Poor Law Commissioners shall in that behalf issue. 05 Apr 1847 The Overseers accounts were further examined this day and approved.

In the election of persons to serve the office of Churchwarden, the Vicar not being present, on the motion of Mr John Tresidder seconded by Mr Robert Rundle, it was unanimously resolved that Thomas Williams Reed and Stephen Doble be continued to serve the office of Churchwarden for the ensuing year.

The subject of making an addition to the salary of the Assistant Overseer having been fully discussed, it was proposed by Mr R.B. Stephens and seconded by Mr H.O. Olivey and unanimously resolved that an addition of ten pounds per year be given to William Courtis for the whole of the time he may be required to serve the interests of the Parish in that office.

01 Jul 1847 The subject of rating of certain Poor Persons having been discussed, and the parties having been heard by the Vestry, it was proposed by Mr Jno. Michell and seconded by Mr Jonathan Nicholls and unanimously resolved that Poor Rates due from all parties in whatever circumstances shall be enforced and such ratepayers as have been the cause of incurring expenses to the Parish by being brought before the Magistrates shall be distrained on for the amount unless the same be paid before the twenty second day of July instant.

The Iron Foundry Company, having applied to the Vestry assembled this day, for leave to shut in their ground, through which the Parish road passes, by gates at each end for the protection of their property, and to keep off idlers from their workshops. The Parishioners in Vestry consented to grant the application for gates to be erected & to be cocked only upon sufferance, and upon payment of one shilling per year to the Parish of Mylor in acknowledgement of their rights and for their permission.

03 Jan 1850 Resolved that it is expedient that the premises lately occupied by Paupers of the Parish of Mylor be sold for the benefit of the Parish. Carried unanimously.

Resolved that the Churchwardens and Overseers of the Parish be authorised to advertise for tenders for the purchase of the said premises, and that they be instructed to lay the same before a future Vestry to be summoned when they think fit. Carried unanimously.

31 Jan 1850 It was resolved by the Parishioners now in Vestry assembled, and agreed to unanimously, on the motion of Mr H.O. Olivey and seconded by Mr John Rowe that the Tender of Mr John Symons of £21, and that of Mr Richd. Tresize of £55 – for the purchase of the premises lately used as a Poorhouse for this Parish, shall be rejected. It is further resolved that the Churchwardens and Overseers be authorised to receive tenders for the purchase of the said premises until the 14th day of Feb. next. It is also resolved that this Vestry be adjourned to 14th day of Feb. to receive the report of the said Parish Officers and to finally decide on the sale of the said premises.

14 Feb 1850 Resolved that certain items of furniture left in the Poorhouse on the removal of Mary Hellatt and claimed by Elisha Jenking on the ground that the said furniture was the property of the said Elisha Jenking, and lent by him to his mother, be given up to him by the Overseers.

Resolved on the motion of Mr John Rowe and seconded by Mr Bartholomew Lawrance and carried unanimously that the Churchwardens and Overseers be empowered to sell the premises formerly used as the Poor House of this Parish, to Sir Charles Lemon Bart. For the sum of seventy pounds, that sum being fifteen pounds above the highest offer previously obtained for the said premises.

03 Jul 1856 The votes having all been impartially scrutinized and the amount summed up on both sides, the result was the number of 22 votes in favour of John Rice Tong for the office of Collector & Ass. Overseer. Moved by Mr Robt. Carvosso that Mr John Rice Tong be paid the same salary as at present paid to Mr Wm. Curtis (thirty pounds per year as Collector and five pounds as Assistant Overseer, the same was seconded by Mr Doble. Signed on behalf of the Vestry, Edw. Hoblyn (Chairman).

04 Sep 1856 [Vestry convened to consider an application from Sir Charles Lemon, Bart & the Perran Foundry Company to stopping & diverting the road leading from Carclew Lodge through Perran Foundry towards Perranwell and turning & diverting same through & over a road commencing from near the lodge gate leading into Carclew and then proceeding to the Parish boundary by the county bridge into Perranarworthal towards the part of the turnpike road between Falmouth & Truro near the Norway Inn].

After full discussion it was moved by Mr Matthew Doble and seconded by Mr John Reed Rowe and resolved unanimously that it is expedient and will be to the advantage of the locality that the road through the Perran Foundry premises should be stopped up and diverted in the manner proposed, provided the Parishioners of Perranarworthal undertake to keep in repair such portion of the new road as passes through the said Parish of Perranarworthal, and this vestry pledges itself to do everything in its power to accomplish such an object.

It was also resolved that the Chairman of this meeting shall give an order in writing directing the Surveyors of the Highways to apply to two Justices to view the said roads so proposed to be stopped up and diverted, and to take such measures as may be necessary for carrying the first resolution into effect.

19 Dec 1861 The following notice was produced, signed by the Churchwardens & Overseers, “We do hereby give you notice that after the expiration of three calendar months from the date hereof, we do intend to dedicate to the use of the public a certain highway already made in your said Parish of Mylor situate near to Carclew Lodge in your said Parish of the length of about thirteen yards and leading from the said Carclew Lodge to the boundary of the said Parish of Mylor towards the Parish of Perranarworthal at or near the county bridge, leading to Perranwharf in the said Parish of Perranarworthal – dated 11th December 1861”.

Resolved that the highway referred to in the above notice is of sufficient utility to the inhabitants of the said Parish of Mylor to justify its being kept in repair at the expense of the said Parish.

01 Apr 1869 The Churchwardens accounts were examined and passed. Proposed by Capt. Norway (Chairman) and seconded by Mr Rundle that the thanks of this Vestry be given to the Churchwardens for their services during the past year.

It was unanimously resolved that Messrs Trevascus and Doble be re‐elected to the role of Churchwardens for the ensuing year. It was proposed, seconded and carried by all present that the sum of 12/‐ per annum be paid to a person for acting as organ blower. Proposed by Capt. Norway and seconded by Mr Rundle that a Church rate of one penny in the pound be made and collected for the purpose of putting and keeping in order the Churchyard. This was carried unanimously.

21 Oct 1869 [The Vestry were asked to consider the contents of the following letter received by the Vicar from the Admiralty] “Sir, I am desired by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to inform you with reference in your letter of 31st July requesting permission to purchase a piece of land adjoining the Burial ground at Mylor, that their Lordships decline to sell this ground but they are willing to grant it to the Parish for an extension to the Burial ground subject to the condition that the Officers and Men of Her Majesty’s Navy shall be buried in Mylor Church Yard without charge. I shall be glad to know if this will suit your views”.

The thanks of the Vestry is hereby given to the Vicar & Churchwardens for their valuable services in obtaining from the Admiralty the important addition to the burial ground of this Parish.

04 Nov 1869 It was ordered that all chargeable hereditaments situated in this Parish, to which sec. 4 of the Poor Rate Assessment & Collection Act extends, shall be rated to the Poor Rate in respect of such rateable hereditaments instead of the occupiers in all rates made after this 4th November 1969.

Colonel Tremayne moved a vote of thanks to Mr Trevascus for his long and untiring zeal in behalf of the Church for the last 13 years. This was seconded and carried unanimously. A vote of thanks was unanimously presented to Mr Ashton for his very efficient services as organist and choir master.

15 Jul 1881 After full discussion [of a proposed water scheme for the north part of Flushing & Lawn Cliff] the following resolution was moved by Mr William Geach and seconded by Mr James Hearle and unanimously carried, that the guardians of this Parish be respectfully requested not to support any water scheme for Flushing if it is proposed that any portion of the expense shall come out of the rates of Mylor Parish.

31 May 1883 [Purpose of the meeting to consider a notice sent to the Overseers by the County Rate Basis Committee indicating that the Parish has been assessed in the sum of £7,200 as the rateable value for the County General & Police Rate, being an increase of £560 on the rateable value as assessed in 1869]

It was unanimously resolved that Messrs Genn & Nalder be requested to attend the meeting of the County rate Basis Committee in Truro on 4th June next on behalf of the Parish to watch its interest and find out upon what date the Assessment is increased by £560.

28 Apr 1887 The following resolution was moved by Mr Walter Taplin seconded by Mr George Hardy that if the Parish Officers wish to re‐value the Parish it be done by a competent Licensed Valuer and, on being put to the meeting, was carried by a majority of 13, there having been 21 voted for the resolution and 8 against.

The above resolution was, by request of the Mover & seconder, withdrawn in favour of the following: Proposed by Mr Stevens, seconded by Mr Nicholas Tallack that two householders from Mylor Bridge and two from Flushing be appointed to assist the Churchwardens & Overseers in the re‐evaluation of the Parish and that the following Gentlemen be appointed: Thomas Moore (Grocer), William Thomas (Builder), Joseph Tong (Builder), James Rowe (Grocer). This was put to the meeting & carried unanimously.

Opie seconded by Mr M.A. Hearle that Colonel Tremayne be selected as a Candidate for the County Council [under the Local Government Act 1888] to represent the Mylor District was put to the meeting and carried unanimously.

Proposed by Mr Geach seconded by Mr Taplin that the parishes of St Gluvias, Perranarworthal and Mabe be asked to elect delegates to co‐operate with such chosen at Mylor to form a committee for the purpose of conducting the election of candidates and any, where necessary, business connected therewith.

We suggest that the committee be formed on the following basis – one for each 100 votes on the register. If the above be adopted by the parishes named the following persons be elected as delegates for this parish: Messrs William Geach, Matthew Angove Hearle, Nicholas Opie, Philip Ashton, Theophilus Lindsy Lawrance.

It was unanimously resolved that the above named should remain in office till the first day of January 1892.

It was moved by Mr Rowe & seconded by Mr Tresise and unanimously resolved that the remainder of the Churchyard be consecrated. Moved by Mr Rowe seconded by Col Tremayne and unanimously resolved that the small bell be hung in the Church Tower, provided the tower be considered by a competent surveyor to be safe for the purpose.
