I am pleased to share with you the Hong Kong Pattern Book for our 2019/20 racing season. Hong Kong is renowned for its world class racing, which each season delivers lucrative and exciting international competition across 31 Pattern races.
All of our Group races offer rich incentives and international prestige, and all are open for overseas entries. At the very elite level, Hong Kong has 12 Group 1 races including four at the flagship LONGINES Hong Kong International Races on the second Sunday in December and three at FWD Champions Day on the last Sunday in April. Our Group 1 races range in value from WELCOME a minimum of HK$10 million to a current high of HK$28 million for December’s LONGINES Hong Kong Cup, the world’s richest 2000m turf race.
FWD Champions Day’s three Group 1 features have each received a prize money increase for the 2019/20 season. The event, one of Asia’s richest race days, was introduced in 2018 as a second major international Group 1 showcase occasion at Sha Tin and has proven to be a big success. The purse for the Chairman’s Sprint Prize is now HK$18 million, a HK$2 million rise on last season, which means that Hong Kong is home to the two most valuable 1200m Group1 turf sprints in the world, with December’s LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint already worth HK$20 million. The FWD Champions Mile purse has risen from HK$18 million to HK$20 million and the FWD QEII Cup prize money has increased by HK$1 million to HK$25 million.
The LONGINES Hong Kong International Races is well-established as world racing’s year-end highlight and is the pinnacle of Hong Kong’s season, drawing elite contenders from around the globe. The four feature Group 1 contests are worth HK$93 million in total: the HK$28 million LONGINES Hong Kong Cup (2000m), the HK$25 million LONGINES Hong Kong Mile (1600m), the HK$20 million LONGINES Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) and the HK$20 million LONGINES Hong Kong Vase (2400m).
Hong Kong also has seven Group 2 races worth HK$4.25 million each and 12 Group 3 races with a value of HK$3.25 million. Our Pattern race programme kicks off on 1 October with a Group 3 double-header, the National Day Cup (1000m) and the Celebration Cup (1400m).

A Trainer who would like to have a companion horse stabled with an invited runner must consider bringing one from their home country.
