2013 OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD MEET-BY-MEET RECAPS TOP PERFORMERS: JOHN MITCHELL ALABAMA RELAYS The Crimson Tide successfully defended its Alabama Relays title in the 4,000-meter men’s distance medley relay. Alabama’s quartet of Parker Deuel, Joel Lynch, Alex LoPresti and Robbie Farnham-Rose won the race Kimberley Ficenec 1,500 Meters 1st in a time of 9 minutes, 51.62 seconds to beat Indiana (9:53.36) and Iowa (9:54.05)) in a field of 11 teams. Austin Duckworth 5,000 Meters 1st In the men’s 4x100-meter relay, Alabama’s quartet of Alex Sanders, Justin Austin, James Har- rington and Dwight Davis placed second in a time of 40.30 seconds. In the women’s hammer Sarah Thomas 100 Meters 1st throw, Alabama’s Lee Stowers and Nia Barnes both compiled personal-best performances. Stow- Elias Hakansson Hammer 1st ers placed sixth with a best effort of 177 feet, 4 inches (54.06 meters) while Barnes was eighth at Men’s Distance Medley Relay 1st 174-7 (53.22m). Alabama’s Lacey Dent was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.45.
YELLOW JACKET INVITATIONAL Alexis Paine shattered the school record in the women’s pole vault as the track and field team won eight events overall, including five individual events and three relays. Paine raised the Crimson Tide’s standard Kimberley Ficenec 800 Meters 1st in the event by clearing 14 feet, 7 ¼ inches. Several Crimson Tide athletes posted performances that rank among the all-time Alabama top 10 in their respective events, Kimberley Ficenec’s impressive victory Robbie Farnham-Rose 1,500 Meters 1st in the women’s 800 meters in a time of 2:09.75, a time that ranks seventh on the all-time UA list. Callie Men’s 4x100 Meter Relay 1st Iveswas second in the women’s long jump with a best of 19-4, a mark that is eighth on the all-time UA list. Men’s 4x400 Meter Relay 1st On the men’s side, Kevin Shannon posted the sixth-best javelin throw in Alabama history as he won the event with a toss of 204-11. CRIMSON TIDE INVITATIONAL The Tide men placed second in the team standings with 117 points while the Alabama women were fourth with Akeem Haynes 100 Meters 1st 80 in final standings. LSU ALUMNI GOLD University of Alabama track and field athletes won five individual events against some of the nation’s top Diondre Batson 100 Meters 1st athletes at the LSU Alumni Gold track meet at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium on the LSU campus. Sprinter Parker Deuel 3,000M Steeple 1st Diondre Batson won the men’s 100-meter dash and Andrew Harris won the men’s B section 800 meters while Krystle Schade won the women’s high jump and Alexis Paine won the women’s pole vault. DRAKE RELAYS The young Alabama track and field team provided another strong outing at the 104th edition of the Drake Relays. Junior jumper Kamal Fuller of Kingston, Jamaica, set a new personal outdoor best in the long jump Men’s 4x100 Meter Relay 1st with a mark of 25-1 ¼, besting his previous record set at the Texas Relays during his 2011 freshman season. The stamp on Alabama’s finish to the Drake Relays was the men’s 4x100 meter relay team that put together Women’s Distance Medley Relay 2nd a near record-breaking performance in the finals, missing the Drake Relays record by one-tenth of a second. Men’s 4x400 Meter Relay 4th Alex Sanders, Diondre Batson, Akeem Haynes and Dushane Farriernow own the third-best 4x100 time in Kamal Fuller Long Jump 4th Alabama history with a clocking of 38.97, the first sub-39 second time by a Tide relay unit since 1983. The mark represents the second fastest time in the nation this year, trailing only Texas A&M’s 38.64. SAMFORD MULTI INVITATIONAL Led by Elias Hakansson’snew school record in the hammer throw, the University of Alabama track and field team had a record-breaking day at the 2013 Samford Multi Invitational on Saturday in Birmingham. Hakansson, a freshman, continued his impressive first year at Alabama.
