PROGRAMME

Background

The historical events that the Mediterranean region has experienced in the last months, in particular in Tunisia and in , represent an important challenge for the Anna Lindh Foundation as a shared and central institution for intercultural dialogue in the region. Through their work in the civil society, the Foundation’s National Networks are concerned about the implications that this historical shift can and should bring to the Foundation’s work.

The Anna Lindh Foundation has therefore launched the Initiative “Believe in Dialogue, Act for Citizenship - Exchanging Practices on Participation and Democracy” . The initiative will be a Process that will open up a new stage for the Anna Lindh Foundation in terms of its work on citizenship, democracy, participation and intercultural dialogue.

In the framework of this initiative, the Foundation is organizing the Tunis Exchange Forum, a Euro -Mediterranean encounter for exchange and debate on ci tizenship, democracy and intercultural dialogue in democratic transitions , to be held in Tunis (Tunisia) on 23 –26 June 2011. Around 150 participants are expected from both European and Arab countries, of which at least one third will be Tunisians. The ALF is organizing this event in partnership with the Foundation for the Future and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sweden and, in close collaboration with the Tunisian Network and the Club Unesco Bardo .

The Foundation will also reinforce its Online Media dime nsion. Given the central role social media are playing in the region, and having in mind the significant demand for participation, we will develop an online platform for the Initiative. The platform would be a complementary tool for the events planned, a m odel which will combine physical events and virtual platforms. All our Networks will be ask to participate in this on -line platform.

Nonviolence movements often evolve without the exclusive leadership of a single figure. They help in voicing people's opinions against repressive regimes, they prepare the ground to bringing justice to society, economy and the environment, and change the political culture thanks to the awakening and rise of civil society as a collective player. This session will address questions such as: - How can nonviolent theories and practices strengthen a culture of freedom and peace in the Euro-Med Region? - Is nonviolence a mean or an end in addressing social, political or cultural conflicts? - What is the contribution of nonviolence in the current phase for strengthening democratic practices? Is there an intercultural approach to nonviolent action? 11.00-11.30 Coffee break 11.30-13.30: DEBATE WORKSHOPS (see document “Debate Workshops”): A – Creativity for Change: Culture and Artistic Expression ‘New Cultural Spaces for Expression’ B – Spreading Ideas: Global and Social Media for Social Expression ‘The Challenges of using New Media and Social Media as Information Tools’ C – Spaces for Participation: Civil Society Development, Dialogue and Tools for Citizenship ‘Contributing to Social Cohesion in Plural Societies’ (2 groups) 13.30-15.00 Lunch at Restaurant Cascade 15.00-16.30 Best Practices and Project Ideas: A - Arts and B – Awareness Raising C1 - Rule of Law and C2 - Awareness Citizenship and Citizenship Human Rights Raising Leadership and Capacity Building Moderator: Gemma Moderator: Claudia Moderator: Gianluca Moderator: Corinne Grassi Aubarell Marinaro Solera 1 Promotion of 1 Media Skills for 1 Impact of Climate 1 Cinema as a Tool for Citizenship through Monitoring Elections Change on Populations Citizenship Awareness Artistic Expression Kacem Jlidi, Institute for Candidate for Cinzia Greco, Mohamed Labidi, War and Peace Reporting Immigration Cinemovel Foundation Association des Anciens (Tunisia) Margret Wawerinke, (Italy) de Bir el Bey (Tunisia) 2 Social Media as a International Lawyers 2 Political Awareness/ 2 Arts and Civic Catalyst for Civil Society Organisation Civic Education for Education Global Ines Development (Netherlands) Young People Boughzala, Global Abdellahi Ould Mohamed 2 Human Rights and Salma Bezouich, Global Change Makers Tunisian Abderrahmane, Dialogue Cultural Heritage Change Makers Tunisian Team - British Council Association for Culture Abdellah Khazene, Arc Team/ British Council (Tunisia) and Creativity en Ciel (Algeria) (Tunisia) 3 Photography for (Mauritania) 3 When Religion, 3 Awareness Raising on Democracy and 3 Use of Open Public Nationalism and the Importance of Citizenship Space for Social Media Militarism No Longer Participation through Imen Bahri, Institut Sami Hourani, Leaders of Clash: Homophobia Media
