LYMAN HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL’S WEEKLY UPDATE – 11/4/19

Good afternoon Lyman Families, this is Mr. Rice, Principal of Lyman High School and this is your Principal’s Weekly Update!

Here are a few areas of importance for you to be aware of:

GOLF TEAM – FHSAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS After 36 holes of state championship , Nick Zarillo finished tied for 63rd. He finished at +9 on day 2 of the tournament bringing his overall score to +16. On the girls' side of the tournament, Emma Hall finished in 39th place. She was +5 yesterday, and her two day total was +14. We are so proud of Emma and Nick for representing Lyman as finalists for the State Championship. Only the top 96 male and the top 95 female golfers in the state of make it to the State Championship tournament. Congratulations to both of you on such an amazing accomplishment.

CROSS COUNTRY – FHSAA REGIONAL This past weekend, our Cross Country Team competed in the FHSAA Cross Country Regionals. Overall, both teams placed 16th. A special congratulations goes out to Megan Rhodes who placed 10th out of 137 runners with a time of 19:25. Megan will now compete at the State Championships! For the boys, Joseph Royston finished 36th out of 139 runners with a time of 16:50.

A special congratulations to Madison Gordon, Jasmine Hupton, Emily Shilson, Madison Koesler, Isabella Sciortino, Jonathan Race, Mason Kuzmick, Kameron Hodges, Jaylen Draper, and Jack Middleton who all participated as well this weekend at the FHSAA Regional. We are proud of you! Congratulations!

VOLLEYBALL REGIONAL SEMI FINAL Girls won a thriller Tuesday night against Timber Creek. Down 11 - 8 in the fifth and final set, our girls came together and rallied back to get a huge win. Our next match is for the Regional Championship. We play at Hagerty HS on Tuesday, 11/05 at 7pm. We hope to see you there!

CONGRATULATIONS BAND ALL- STATE Congratulations to Victoria Vazquez for being selected to the 2020 All State Band! Victoria is a percussionist and one of less than 10 percussionists that will participate from across the state! We are proud of you!

CONGRATULATIONS – YOUNG MEN OF EXCELLENCE On Thursday, our Young Men of Excellence, lead by Mr. Bernard Knight hosted their Knockout Cancer Event. The purpose of this event was to spread awareness of breast, prostate, and testicular cancer in a fun and exciting way through a playful boxing match between myself (Mike “Twice As Nice” Rice and Shawn “Always” Ready. In the end, it was Mr. Cohen, Lyman High School Teacher and cancer survivor, who was the real winner, representing all those that have fought this awful illness. We had a great time raising awareness and I appreciate our YMOE students for their work in putting on this event!

LYMLIGHT PRODUCTIONS – HAMLET – THIS WEEKEND! We hope you will take some time this weekend to see this year’s Lyman Theater Production of Hamlet. The show runs this weekend, November 7, 8, and 9. LIGHT UP LYMAN - SAVE THE DATE – JANUARY 30, 2020 This is our registration information night for the 2020-2021 School Year which is geared towards our incoming 9th graders. All clubs, organizations, and sports should plan to decorate a table with lights to show our incoming students what Lyman has to offer! Spread the word!

ATHLETICS WINNERS CIRCLE!

 Congratulations to our Huey Magoo's ALPHA HOUND Female Athlete of the Week - Emma Hall – Golf - Junior golfer Emma Hall shot +6 at the Regional Championship Tournament and finished in 17th place overall. Her performance qualified her for the Girls State Championship Tournament at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, FL. After 36 holes of Championship golf on the "Las Colinas" course, Emma finished at 39th in the state with a score of +14.  Congratulations to our Huey Magoo's ALPHA HOUND Male Athlete of the Week - Nick Zarillo – Golf - Junior golfer Nick Zarillo shot Even Par at the Regional Championship Tournament and finished in 3rd place overall. His performance qualified him for the Boys State Championship Tournament at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, FL. After 36 holes of Championship golf on the "El Campeon" course, Nick finished tied for 63rd in the state with a score of +16.  Congratulations to our Huey Magoo's PACE SETTER Team of the Week - Varsity Football - Our football team picked up their first win of the season in a dominant performance over . This was a great, team win. Both sides of the ball played aggressive and executed well. The final score was 31 - 20
