Renssealaer Land Trust Land Conservation Plan Appendix K: Town of Hoosick Resource Targets and Conservation Priority Areas

Located in the northeast corner of Rensselaer County, the Town of Hoosick contains areas that are important both locally and regionally. The and Route 22 bisect the town from north to south, and the Hoosic River also defines the northwest border of the town. This valley area contains some of the highest priority areas for ecological resources, water resources, agricultural resources, and, in the south, climate resiliency resources. The Rensselaer Plateau extends into the southwest corner of the town, and contains highest priority ecological, climate resiliency and scenic resource areas. Additional high priority agricultural resource areas are found throughout the town, and other high priority scenic resource areas are within and east of the Village of Hoosick Falls, and in the southeast corner of the town. The Walloomsac River corridor and the Bennington Battlefield have high priority scenic, water resource, and climate resiliency areas. Indian Hill and nearby steep hills are ecologically significant because of the less acidic bedrock, unusual in the county, that supports uncommon habitat and plants.
