NEWBURY BRIDGE CLUB HOST BEIJING SILVER MEDALLISTS

On Sunday 9th August Newbury Bridge Club hosted a last sixteen match of the Bridge Great Britain . The match was a repeat of last year’s quarter-final match between the Jordain team from Cardiff and the Townsend team from London. After a keenly fought match lasting nearly seven hours the 2008 result was repeated with the Townsend team again emerging victorious. The cream of British Bridge were represented at the event. England’s leading pair, Tom Townsend and David Gold (originally from Wash Common) led from the front. They won the silver medal in the Open Teams event at the in Beijing 2008 which followed the Olympic Games. They were supported by Internationals Espen Erichsen, Norman Selway and Nick Irens.
