Safety Kid Student Education SAFETY KID® STUDENT EDUCATION This week, Arie Crown introduced the Safer Schools' Student Education Pro- gram, Safety Kid®. Our volunteer “Safety Kid Facilitators,” who trained with Mrs. Rachel Zimmerman and Ms. Jessica Schaffer of Jewish Child & Fami- ly Services, presented to Nursery through 5th grade on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The highly acclaimed Safety Kid® program was created by Mrs. Debbie Fox, LCSW in Los Angeles and was embraced by teachers and students alike. We thank Mrs. Mindi Zissman, Mrs. Chani Isenberg and Mr. Hillel Efron, our Arie Crown Safety Moms and Dad, in addion to volunteers trained by JCFS and Safety Moms from other schools, for devong me and effort to this project. Please discuss with your children some of the topics and terminology that they learned, and familiar‐ ize yourself with this important program. Comments or quesons may be directed to Jessica Schaffer, Safer Schools Program , at 847- 745-5450, or directly to Rabbi Samber.

iPads in the Classrooms When Mrs. Kirsch rolls the iPad cart into the classroom many students cheer. What do the students do with the iPads? * First graders have used RazKids and Pocket Phonics in reading. The first grade boys have written monster stories using the app “My Story.” * Third and fourth graders have written stories using “Write About.” This app has 3 different levels of prompts (narrative, expository, persuasive) and dozens of pictures. * Mrs. Wagner’s sixth graders used the app “Trading Cards” for charac- terization. In the fall they created a Google presentation on Chrome- books. * Mrs. Nussbaum’s class is learning how to use the graphic organizer in “Popplet” to plan their next writing assignment. The students are having so much fun they don’t even realize they are learning!

Questions about hot lunch? Contact the Hot Lunch Committee at [email protected]. For technical website questions: 1-866- 529-2064 -or- [email protected] **Parents of 7th & 8th graders: In April, the 7th and 8th graders will miss lunches because of the Springfield and Washington trips. Unfortunately, at this point we don't have an option to opt out of those specific days. All lunches must be ordered on a semester basis. Therefore, we are offering the following solution: For 7th graders, a sibling can get their lunch that day. For 8th grade - for the Monday/Tuesday lunches (April 27-28 - girls will miss those) and Tuesday lunch (April 28 - boys will miss that) a sibling can get the lunch. Siblings should approach the hot lunch table to ask for those lunches. For the pizza lunch missed (boys & girls) on April 29th, the pizza will be served to students on Friday, May 8th.
