I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all Penrith players, officials and supporters and I hope they enjoy their afternoon with us. When the teams met at Frenchfield back in September, Whitley enjoyed a fairly comfortable 2-0 win, with a 39th minute penalty from Lee Kerr before Glen Taylor scored on his debut midway through the second half. Last Saturday saw Whitley back to their best with a comprehensive victory over AFC Liverpool in the 3rd Round of the FA Vase. Six second half goals provided rich entertainment for the bumper crowd of over 700 and as always seems to be the case in the Vase, Paul Chow and Lee Kerr were among the goals. Unfortunately we were unable to repeat that success on Tuesday evening when we came up against a very impressive Ashington side who put paid to our hopes of retaining the Northumberland Senior Cup. The game was a repeat of last year’s Final at St James’ Park and there was a degree of inevitability that former Bay favourite Phil Bell should score their crucial second goal. Next Saturday we face the long journey south to the Kent coast to take on Herne Bay in the 4th Round of the FA Vase. This game sees Whitley up against another ‘Bay’ who play in blue and white stripes, so as at Wembley last May, we will be wearing our yellow away colours. The Club is running a supporters coach to Herne Bay, leaving Hillheads at 5.30am on Saturday. To book your seat, please see Tommy Moody today or contact him on 07983135627 as soon as possible.
