KATHERINE ANDERSON (Woman #3) is a music director, voice and piano teacher, accompanist, and performer. Recently at RLT she music directed Pippin and Avenue Q, but this is her first acting appearance at RLT since 2010. RLT roles include Franca in The Light in the Piazza (Cantey award), Hope in Urinetown, Cunegunde in Candide, Cinderella in Cinderella, and she is a former Diva. She received her BM in voice and musical theatre with a minor in piano from .

LAUREN BAMFORD (Phoebe) is thrilled to help tell this tale of love and murder with such a fabulous cast & crew! A graduate of Cornell University and the University of New England, Lauren now works at the EPA in STEM Education. Theater credits: Godspell (Katie, TIP), Cinderella (Fairy Godmother, RLT), and Joseph...Dreamcoat (Narrator, Cary Players). When not on stage, Lauren can be found traipsing through the forest, or cuddling with her cat, Dodger. Love and thanks to all!

LEANNE BERNARD (Miss Shingle) is thrilled to be in her first RLT show alongside this very talented cast. Recently, she played Laurie in Oklahoma!, other favorite roles are Anna in The King and I, Auntie in Mame, Grace in Annie and Fiona in Shrek the Musical. Many thanks to her friends and family that support her love of theatre and much appreciation to Patrick and the production team for this amazing opportunity to play this extremely fun role!

SHANA FISHER (Woman #1) is excited to be performing in her first production with RLT. Recent roles include Cumie Barrow/Governor Ferguson in Bonnie & Clyde with NRACT and Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast with McGregor Hall. An attorney by day and proud mother of two amazing girls, Shana would like to thank Patrick and Mark for this opportunity, this amazing cast and crew, and her husband for all of his encouragement and support.

TYLER GRAEPER (Monty) is ecstatic to be making his RLT stage debut, and in a dream role to boot! Tyler was last seen in Big River at Temple Theatre and will be seen next as Lancelot in Camelot at Burning Coal Theatre this coming December. JON KARNOFSKY (Man #3) is very excited to be back on stage after a long hiatus. Jon’s favorite roles at Raleigh Little Theatre include Jerry Lukowski in The Full Monty, Chip Tolentino in 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Jinx in Plaid Tidings. LAUREN TOMPKINS (Woman #2) is overjoyed to be a part of this incredible show and for her RLT debut! Past roles include Blanche Barrow in Bonnie and Clyde, Tina Vitale in Tony ‘n’ Tina’s Wedding, Abigail Adams in 1776, Woman 1 in Songs For A New World, and Sara Jane Moore in Assassins. AMANDA JANE AXELROD (Assistant Stage Manager) is thrilled to be working on her first production at Raleigh Little Theatre! An alum of UNC Chapel Hill and Georgetown University, some favorite productions include Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (Nina), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Hermia), Guys and Dolls (Adelaide), and The New Hopeville Comics (GM/SM). DENNIS R. BERFIELD (Scenic Designer/Production Manager/Technical Director) is from South Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He attended Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. He went on to pursue a Masters of Fine Arts in Scenic Design and Technology at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. During his time in undergraduate and graduate school, Dennis worked at various regional and off-Broadway theaters as a Scenic Artist, Carpenter, Master Carpenter, Scenic Designer, Assistant Technical Director, Scenic Coordinator, as well as many other backstage production roles. After working professionally for a number of years, Dennis became an adjunct professor at Millikin University in Decatur, IL and eventually went on to become the Technical Director at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania.

DUSTIN BOWLES (Assistant Lighting Designer) works in Human Resources for a wood biomass manufacturing company by day and is a theatre volunteer by night. Other free time is spent being an avid fan and member of a not-for-profit community choir. He is excited to be a part of another great production at Raleigh Little Theatre! Previous credits at RLT have been: Crew Member for Sister Act, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Cinderella, Three Little Birds, Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, and Pippin; Light Crew Chief for The Revolutionists; and Assistant Lighting Designer for Measure for Measure and Junie B. Jones, The Musical. He thanks his family as well as Dennis and Kaitlin for their continued support and the opportunity to learn more about lighting design.

LESLIE CASTRO (Assistant Director) is delighted to be working on her first show with Raleigh Little Theatre! She is a recent graduate of Meredith College and will soon relocate to Washington, D.C., for a fellowship with Shakespeare Theatre Company. Recent theatrical credits include the 2019 touring production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Puck/Philostrate) with Burning Coal Theatre, and She Kills Monsters (Tilly) with Meredith College Theatre. TYLER ELROD (Assistant Technical Director) is Raleigh Little Theatre’s Assistant Technical Director, and has over ten years of experience as a professional Stagehand. Before moving to Raleigh he spent many years on the house staff at the Duke Family Performance Hall, at Davidson College. He built six shows’ worth of sets in seven weeks at the Ohio Light Opera, has set up massive sound systems and video walls in arenas and stadiums with IATSE Local 322, and has fabricated and installed counterweight fly systems from scratch with Custom Stage Services. He is a graduate of Catawba College with a BFA in Technical Theatre Design & Production.

ROBERT L. FREEDMAN won a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, and Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Book of a Musical for the Tony-winning Best Musical of 2014, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. He was also nominated for a Tony Award for Best Score, with composer and co-lyricist Steven Lutvak, with whom he shared the 2014 Drama Desk Award for Best Lyrics. Among his television career highlights, Robert won the Writers Guild Award for HBO’s A Deadly Secret, and was nominated for an Emmy Award and a Writers Guild award for the miniseries Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows. Other teleplays include Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, for which he received a third Writers Guild nomination; What Makes A Family, which received a GLAAD Award

XII RALEIGH LITTLE THEATRE PRODUCTION STAFF BIOGRAPHIES and for which Robert was a Humanitas finalist;What Love Sees, winner of the Silver Plaque at the Chicago International Television Festival; as well as the highly-rated true crime dramas Murder In The Hamptons, The Pastor’s Wife, Honor Thy Mother, and Bitter Blood. In 2006, Freedman and Lutvak received both the Fred Ebb Award for songwriting and the Kleban Award for lyric writing for their work on the musicals A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder and Campaign of the Century. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Robert has B.A. in Theatre from UCLA and an M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing and Musical Theatre from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Robert is currently at work on a film for HBO and Sundance Films. He is married to actress Jean Kauffman, and they are the proud parents of Max Freedman, a writer and community activist living in Brooklyn.

ALEX GROMO (Assistant Stage Manager) has been involved in theatre since his college years at Syracuse University where he played Creon in Antigone and Orgon in Tartuffe. After college, he moved behind the scenes in several community theatres. Most recently, Alex has volunteered at Raleigh Little Theatre as part of various crews including lights, sound, props and deck for a dozen productions in the last four years. Most recently, he was Stage Manager for Divas! 2019.

RACHEL HEDGES (Props Master) is thrilled to be joining Raleigh Little Theatre team for the first time with this production! In roles from stage manager to run crew, she has worked on a variety of productions of various sizes throughout the country, whether rural community theatre or large-scale tour. Rachel is so honored to have had the opportunity to work alongside some truly talented artisans and hopes you enjoy the show as much as she did helping put it together.

MARK L. HOPPER (Music Director) is thrilled to join A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder creative team for his first show with Raleigh Little Theatre. Mark has directed over thirty shows across the southeast, frequently with his home companies at McGregor Hall, a new 1,000-seat PAC in Henderson where he is Operations Director and Board Chair. During the day he serves as Minister of Music/Organist at The First Baptist Church, Henderson. “Thanks to my family and church for making this possible!”

TODD HOUSEKNECHT (Sound Designer) has been very active in community theatre in the Raleigh area for over 7 years, providing set construction, technical direction, lighting design and sound engineering assistance for organizations that include Raleigh Little Theatre, Cary Players, NRACT, several high schools and others. He hopes you enjoy the show.

GEORGE LABUSOHR (Fight Director) is a graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design, where he received his B.F.A in Performing Arts. He is an Actor Combatant certified by the Society of American Fight Directors and choreographs violence for schools and theatre companies around the triangle. This is his first production working with Raleigh Little Theatre! Thank you Patrick for the opportunity to work on a hysterical musical!

STEVEN LUTVAK made his Broadway debut with his score to A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, for which he supplied the music, and co-wrote the lyrics with Robert L. Freedman. A Gentleman’s Guide won the Drama League, the Outer Critics Circle, the Drama Desk and the Tony Awards for Best Musical of 2014. Since its successful run of over two years on Broadway, there have been two National Tours (the second of which is currently on the road), and productions have already been seen in Sweden, Japan, and the first Chinese language production opens this December. Steven lives in New York City with his husband, choreographer Michael McGowan, and their daughter, Eliot Rose Lutvak-McGowan.

RALEIGH LITTLE THEATRE XIII PRODUCTION STAFF BIOGRAPHIES

JENNY MITCHELL (Costume Designer) is a Costume Designer here at Raleigh Little Theatre. She is thankful to have such a dedicated group of volunteers and co-workers to work with on this, and every, production. Her most recent credits include: Ken Ludwig’s Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery, James and the Giant Peach, Charlotte’s Web, Batboy, Mothers and Sons, One Man Two Guvnors, Beanstalk: The Musical, and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

CHARLES PHANEUF (Executive Director) is a Raleigh native who returned to the area and to RLT in 2012. He was previously Managing Director of Joe’s Movement Emporium, a multi-disciplinary performing arts center located outside of Washington, DC, and Associate Managing Director at the Shakespeare Theatre Company during the expansion into the Harman Center for the Arts. Charles is a founding member of the Capital Fringe Festival and Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra, both in Washington. He is a UNC-Chapel Hill alumni, President of the Friends of the Gregg Museum at NCSU, and recently served on the Dix Park Master Plan Advisory Committee. Charles was named “40 Under 40” by the Triangle Business Journal in 2014, and Tar Heel of the Week by the News and Observer in 2018.

NANCY RICH (Choreographer) always enjoys working on musicals here at Raleigh Little Theatre! Past choreo projects for RLT include: Spamalot, Rocky Horror, The Boyfriend, Threepenny Opera, Hot Mikado and Urinetown (2008 version). Next up, Nancy is directing The Old Man and the Old Moon for Theatre in the Park. Special thanks to Patrick and Mark for being awesome, Rod for supporting her, and an amazing cast, crew, and staff. KAITLIN GILL RIDER (Lighting Designer) is a freelance lighting designer based in the Triangle area. She graduated in 2013 from The University of at Greensboro with a BFA in Theatrical Design with a concentration in lighting design. This is her 3rd year of designing for Raleigh Little Theatre and is excited to be back. Rider also designs for other local theatres such as, Theatre Raleigh, North Carolina Theatre Conservatory, and Carolina Friends School.

PATRICK TORRES (Artistic Director) has been a professional director and educator for over 15 years. Prior to joining Raleigh Little Theatre, he served as a Directing Fellow at the Shakespeare Theatre Company, Associate Artistic Director of Young Playwrights’ Theater (YPT), and Director of Middle and High School Programs at Creative Action. His work as a freelance director has been seen at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Southwest Shakespeare Festival, Round House Theatre, The Source Festival, and the Hangar Theatre, among others. He served as the Assistant Director for The Glass Menagerie starring Sally Field at the Kennedy Center through an award given by the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers. In 2003, he was selected as a Drama League Directing Fellow and in 2005 was named a Young leader of Color by the Theatre Communications Group. As an educator, he developed the After-School Playwriting Program for YPT which won the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award from First Lady Michelle Obama in 2010. Patrick has a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Southern Mississippi. He would like to thank his wife and family for their support.

SCOTT WINTON WRAY (Stage Manager) has been a stage manager, assistant stage manager, production assistant, scenic designer, props master, projection designer, lighting designer and sound designer. He has also been seen onstage as Santa, a prince, a newspaper editor, a doctor, a king, a Scottish gardener, a ticket-taker, a Jewish fabric merchant, a Nazi officer, a butler and a circus owner.
