For Hank Brown (JD ’69), the Law School provided a rigorous profes- sional education in an atmosphere befitting his stalwart leadership abilities. Since then, he has pursued a lifetime of achievement and service to society at every turn. Throughout a career that has included the U.S. Navy, Monfort of Colorado, state and federal elective office, the Daniels Fund, and the presidency of the University of Colorado, Brown’s leadership and civic commit- ment have exemplified the highest hopes we have for our graduates.

The Hank Brown Leadership Scholarship program will bolster Colorado Law’s ability to draw students bound for a life of exemplary leadership and service within the legal profes- sion and beyond. Your support for this new scholarship will enhance our ability to compete with other top-tier law schools and foster the traits that have made Hank Brown one of Colorado’s most respected citizens. A Transformative Scholarship We are raising an endowment of at least $3 million to fund two full-tuition Hank Brown Leadership Scholarships. A generous Monfort Family Foundation gift launched the campaign, funding one three-year scholarship for each of the next five years starting The Wolf Law Building at the in fall 2008. The Monfort gift provides the incentive for raising a permanent endowment University of Colorado Law School. to allow the program to continue beyond the first five scholars in perpetuity. It will sup- port a legal education every year for two incoming students with demonstrated records and commitments to leadership and service. This scholarship program comes at a critical crossroads for growth in student aid. Col- orado Law’s ranking is solid and rising, placing us among the best law schools in the nation. While our reputation is enhanced by the achievements of graduates such as Hank Brown, our future success will require us to remain accessible to emerging leaders, re- gardless of their ability to pay. Today, our scholarship program is not keeping pace with those of peer schools. As state support declines and private endowments remain modest, tuition is driven up, excluding many worthy people who depend on financial assistance. Only with substantial private support can Colorado Law attract, educate, and inspire fu- ture leaders of the bench, bar, business community, and public sector. We need your help to achieve this goal.
