2010 FIFA World Cup affords the country and the SABC a once in a life time opportunity to emerge as a broadcaster of world class status by delivering the ultimate broadcast experience for our television audiences and radio listeners.

Our aim therefore is for the SABC to be single-minded in our focus for 2010 success. This same spirit must prevail in the period leading up to, during and beyond the World Cup.

All 64 matches will be live on Radio and Simulcast on Television in 11 languages.

ƒSABC 1 will broadcast 56 matches live, as well as world cup integrated content such as magazine and documentary programming;

ƒSABC2 will broadcast 8 matches live and World Cup integrated content from a support position;

ƒSABC 3 will deliver World Cup integrated content, lifestyle related content and repeats of matches; and

ƒRadio – All language stations will broadcast all 64 matches live in a language of the station. SABC WORLD CUP BROADCAST CENTRE

The centrepiece of the SABC’s 2010 FIFA World Cup Offering will be a set housed at theSandton Convention Centre, the key idea is to provide a Sportainment approach.

Why Sandton Convention centre? ƒ Accessibility to the FIFA Headquarters based at Nelson Mandela Square, where VIP’s, dignitaries, and former players will be based, additional to that the FIFA Congress will be held in Sandton;

ƒ The convention centre is in close proximity to the main FIFA fan fest in Johannesburg;

• 56 matches will be broadcast live on SABC 1 and 8 matches will be broadcast on SABC 2 (one of the final games in each of the groups in the round of Group Matches). Of those 64 matches… – 12 matches will be presented live from the stadium using a five camera OB – the 12 matches are the 3 South Africa Group Match games, 1 match from the Round of 16, 4 Quarter Finals, 2 Semi-Finals, 3rd Place Play-off and the Final – 8 matches will be presented live from a PVA – 64 matches will be presented live from a studio at the SABC Broadcast Center

• Match coverage programming will include live contributions from PVAs, with a total of 47 PVAs being covered • Commentary will be mixed English and Vernacular from all matches • Production will be in HD (16:9) and then down converted to SD (4:3) at Henley for broadcast on analogue, DSTV and Vivid • HD archive recordings to be done at IBC

• Up to four HD OB vans will be used for the coverage of the 12 matches presented live from stadiums • Two HD MPUs together with two EVS vans will be used for the coverage of the 8 matches presented live from PVAs • One OB van and one SD MPU will be on hot stand-by for unexpected events and productions • Two DSNG units with two cameras each will be used for the live contributions from the 47 PVAs (one per day) • Ten ENG teams will gather stories in Host Cities
