Astros Look to Extend Cinderella Story vs. Royals

The look to take Game 5 of the series in Kansas City versus the Royals in what has been a “Cinderella Story” for the Astros. The series is tied 2-2 through four games.

The first game took place last Friday when the Astros went to Kauffman Stadium to take down . Collin Mchugh was up for the task, pitching well behind a 3-1 lead going into a rain delay. After the delay the Astros continued to swing away in route to an 11-hit 5-2 win. Game 2 slated the infamous against Scott Kazmir, and the Astros wasted no time again getting a 4-2 lead over 6 of play. Despite Colby Rasmus’ Major League record of becoming the first player to get an extra base hit in their first 6 postseason games, the Astros bullpen fell apart, giving up a late rally to fall 5-4. Game 3 moved back to Houston where the potential Cy-Young winner, Dallas Keuchel, looked to take down Edinson Volquez. After a moonshot homerun from began the scoring, the Astros went on a four-run spree in the 5th, 6th, and 7th, giving Keuchel his second postseason win. Monday’s Game 4 was the last game at Minute Maid Park, where rookie Lance McCullers faced off against Yordano Ventura in one of the craziest playoff games so far. The Astros, on the backs’ of rookie Carlos Correa’s two homeruns, as well as Colby Rasmus and Chris Carter’s solo blasts, went up 6-2 going into the 8th . All looked bright for the surprise-of-the-year Houston Astros when Lance McCullers exited the game in the 7th inning. Yet the bullpen managed to load the bases in the 8th in route to a 5 run go-ahead inning that resulted in a 9-6 Royals win. “It felt like I died inside after that 8th inning,” said Joel Dennison, a med student here at Texas Tech, “then we went on to lose and it felt even worse.” Emotional words from the Houston Native and lifelong Astros fan, but I’m sure he was not alone in his grief.

Now Astros fans and players alike look to Game 5 of the ALDS at Kauffman Stadium. It’s been ten long awaited years for the Houston Astros to be back in the playoffs. The last glimpse at the playoffs was in 2005, where the Astros went all the way to the and ended up losing to the . The on the other hand, went all the way to the World Series just last year. A Texas Tech student who lived in Kansas City for a few years had this to say, “I wasn’t a big baseball fan when I lived there so I really don’t care, but I think it would be cool for the Astros to finally win one.” So the real question is, will the clock strike twelve for the Astros’ Cinderella story tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Kauffman Stadium?
