Construction of KWO's first power plant in Handeck got underway in 1925. The Handeck 2 power plant was built in 1947, with another, up-to-date plant being added in 2009. A power plant tour through our labyrinth of tunnels will show you three generations of power plants and close to a century of power plant history and electricity production from hydropower. While a great deal has changed, much more has remained the same. The new crystal exhibition in one of the winding tunnels demonstrates another highlight of power plant construction: The most beautiful “sparklers” discovered in 2019 during the blasting work for the replacement Spitallamm dam will be on show to visitors to the power plant!
