Student Exchange Information

For Nominations – Incoming Students Term-V (Sep.-Dec.) : May 15 Term-VI (Dec/Jan.-Feb/Mar.) : October 30 Application procedures Download the application available at: www.iimranchi.ac.in/iro Supporting documents required for application Letter from the Home Institute nominating the student. Visa Details Yes. It is mandatory for all incoming students to arrive in India on a Student Visa. Students need to ensure they have the visa when they reach India. Refer to the link below for more details on Indian Visa regulations and requirements: http://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/ Nomination for Exchange Programme Incoming students need to apply for the Student Exchange Programme (STEP) through their International Relations Office at Home Schools. Exchange students get enrolled in the Post Graduate Programme (PGDM & PGDHRM) courses. IIM Ranchi will accept incoming students for the STEP programme based on the application and other supporting documents provided. Documents Required For Registration After Arrival: formalities:  Copy of Invitation Letter  Two Forms: (a) Personal Data Card and (b) Identity Card (printouts of the filled-in forms [typed] and signed need to be produced on the day of registration)  4 passport size photographs (2 to be attached on the two forms and 2 needed for the library)  Students name should be written at the back of each photograph and submitted on the day of registration  Photocopies of Passport and Visa Term Dates December 14, 2015 to February 26, 2016 Expected arrival dates for exchange students 3 Days before the start of the term Orientation dates Two days before the start of the term Pedagogy Lectures, Case study based sessions, group work/assignments Compulsory language requirements for Good command (reading, writing & speaking) over exchange students English. Medium of Instruction The language of instruction for all courses is English. Hence, exchange students need to be proficient in English. All students in IIM Ranchi are proficient in English and other Indian language like . Exchange students proficient in English will not have any difficulty in communicating in English. List of Courses The List of courses to be offered during January to March 2016 is attached as Annexure-I.

Credit System All the courses are offered either as 3-credit or 1.5-credit courses. Each 3-credit [or 1.5-credit] course has a minimum of 30 [or 15] class contact hours spread over a term. The student workload for a 3-credit [or 1.5-credit] course is equivalent to 100 [or 50] hours, including 30 [or 15] in- class contact hours. Evaluation Criterion In addition to the class participation and continuous evaluation the following format is followed for evaluation: For 3 credit course: Minimum 4 components of evaluations comprising of end-term exam (compulsory), and at least three from the following components – mid- term exam, quizzes, Class Participation, Assignment, Project, Case Analysis, etc. For 1.5 credit course: Minimum 3 components of evaluations comprising of end-term exam (compulsory) and at least two from the following components – Quizzes, Class Participation, Assignment, Project, Case, etc. Courses open for exchange students  Elective courses are open to exchange students.  An elective course is offered if minimum 10/20 students are registered in the course including regular and exchange students. Housing

Do you provide on-campus housing? Yes.  IIM Ranchi campus is located away from the hum- drum of city life to offer a serene and natural environment to all students. It is mandatory for all students to stay within the campus. IIM Ranchi provides hostel rooms for students.  Single room accommodation in a 2 or 3 bedroom flat with 1 or 2 common rest room(s). Each flat has a common kitchen with facility of gas & basic utensils.  Other facilities include a gymnasium, swimming pool, a bank and post office. Student Commitees & Clubs Academic Committee – The prime focus of the Academic Committee is to facilitate students with all the academic activities at IIM Ranchi. This committee acts as the bridge between the administration, faculty and students. The academic committee has to deal with submissions, group formation and various briefings to the batch in sync with faculty and Program Assistants.

Additional Useful Information

 Application details are emailed to the partner Institute/University after nomination of students.  The partner Institute will be informed about acceptance of nomination for exchange approximately two weeks after the application deadline.  Exchange students will receive a letter of admission through e-mail.  The nominated student has to register for the elective course of his/her choice from the list.  The students can opt for an elective course from Business Management or from Human Resource Management Programmes.  Courses offered are subject to change depending upon the number of students registered for the course.  Each course is either 1.5 or 3 credits. Each credit is of 10 contact hours.  Exchange students are expected to take exams along with regular students. No permission is given for change of exam date(s).

Important places to visit in Ranchi Waterfalls It has numerous `Waterfalls and Lakes’. Because of its hilly topography, it enjoys a pleasant climate throughout the year. Some of them are: : one of the most picturesque falls surrounding Ranchi.It is 45 kms from Ranchi on Ranchi-Purulia Road.. Here, the falls from a height of 320 feet. The pools at the bottom of the falls are favourite picnic and bathing spots. : also known as Gautamdhara is around 40 Kms from Ranchi. It is approachable by both Road and train. The fall can be admired by descending around 500 steps. There is a tourist rest house which contains Lord Buddha temple. The river Kanchi flows nearby. : is 34 kms from Ranchi on Ranchi-Tata Road near a village called Taimara. Here, the Kachni river falls from an altitude of 144 feet. It is also known as Dassam Gagh. Panch Gagh falls: is on Ranchi- Chakradharpur Road about 6 kms from .This fall consists of five streams formed in a row due to the breaking up of the Banai river which falls from a good height.Cemented walkways connect the different cataracts, of which stream 2 is the most popular while 5 is the biggest, though a bit inaccessible. Hirni falls: Another beautiful waterfall amidst forests about 70 km from Ranchi. Sita Falls: Adjacent to Jonha falls is Sita falls which can be seen at its best early in the morning.

Other Interesting Places Gonda Hill and Rock Garden: It is situated at a distance of about 4 kms from Ranchi town on Ranchi Road.Rock Garden is carved out of the rocks of Gonda Hill and resembles its design to rock garden of Jaipur.At the base of the Hill is Kanke Dam. Tagore Hill : The Morhabadi Hill famous as Tagore Hill is an important tourist spot.The elder brother of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore,Jyotirindranath Tagore has built a house(Shantidham) on the the hill.It is known as Tagore Hill due to its association with tagore family. Rath yatra similar to Puri is held every year. Nakshatra Van: It is situated in the heart of the City.It is divided into various sections. There is a big circle in the center of the park which is divided into arcs.The tree that represents the particular nakshatras in the zodiac has been planted in each of the corresponding arcs.

Muta Crocodile breeding centre: is situated at a distance of 23 km from Ranchi on Ranchi Ramgarh Road near Ormanjhi. There are around 50 crocodiles. Birsa Jaivik Udyan: is situated at a distance of 16 km from Ranchi in Ranchi Ramgarh Road near Ormanjhi. Many species of animals, trees and plants can be seen here. Ranchi Lake: Located at the base of Ranchi Hills is excavated in the year 1842. McCluskigunj: It is famous for European style bungalows and a tribal museum. Tribal Research Institute and Museum: Located in Morhabadi. It shows tribal culture of Chotanagpur plateau.

Connectivity Ranchi is well connected with other metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and Chennai. Airways Ranchi’s airport is called Birsa Munda Airport (Code: IXR) connects the other part of India to the city. The airport is located in Hinoo, approximately 16 kms from the Hostel and 10 kms from the Institute. Ranchi has direct flights from Patna, Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Air India, GoAir, Indigo and Jet Airways are some of the major airlines which offer flight services to Ranchi city. The Ranchi airport has all the modern facilities. Rail/Train Ranchi city is one of the major stations of South Eastern Railways and is well connected with most of the cities of India via rail. Ranchi Railway Station (station code RNC) is the main railway station of Ranchi, where most of the important trains have a stoppage. The distance to Ranchi Railway Station is approximately 11 kms from the hostel and 6 kms from the Institute.

Local Transport Taxi Services Taxi service is also available in Ranchi city. Taxis with predetermined rates are a good option and may cost around Rs 600 to 700 for a day, depending on the distance traveled. Auto Rickshaws Auto-rickshaws form an important part of public-transport system in Ranchi. Here the auto- rickshaws do not run on meter but and drivers ask for a fixed amount. There are usually no separate night-fares.
