Part of the strategy was player freedom to select a multifaceted team to win the game in different ways. Released in 1995 for MS-DOS, this is the first game in the player task series with the release of the fictional island of Metavira from the greedy Santino. The player must recruit mercenaries when they explore, capture and hold new territories. The natives collect valuable trees from which the revolutionary medicine can be extracted; as a result of the fact that the island was used as a nuclear test site in 1952. The mission of this second official game in the series is to free the country of Arulko from its evil dictator, the queen Deidrinna. Deirdreanne married the democratically elected King Arulko and then launched a coup eight years ago, overthrowing her husband and taking power for himself. The player is hired by exiled King Enrico Chivaldori to liberate his homeland from Deirdrenna's dictatorial regime. The gameplay is similar to the original grandiose adventure style of Jagged Alliance, but has graphics with higher resolution and isometric pseudo-3D view on the battlefield. The terrain has two levels of height (land and roof) for player/enemy sprites and a main physics engine for abandoned objects and ballistics. It also has a destructible terrain in that players can blow up open walls and buildings with explosives. The game also takes place in various and quite creative places, including a multi-level prison center, a school, a hospital, surface-to-air missile systems (SAM), a swamp and a landfill. The arsenal of weapons has grown significantly to include various types of weapons based on real analogues (such as automatic weapons, shotguns, rocket launchers), as well as fictional weapons like automatic rocket-propelled grenade launcher. There are still a few role-playing elements such as specialty professions and the ability to create custom mercenaries as well. Mercs can talk to each other during missions, usually beating one-liners and other comments to each other. JA2 was widely modded by fans of the series. This release adds some tricks to the battle engine as well as the script editor, but the gameplay remains pretty much unchanged. This allows you to import a character created for JA2 with his or her final stats, improved statistics of other mercenaries imported too. New plot plot unfinished business. The original owners of the lucrative Arulco mines have returned and set up a missile base in the neighbouring country of Tracon, demanding that the mines be returned to them. The player must assemble a team of mercenaries to infiltrate Tracon and disable the missile base. Jagged Alliance 2: Gold Pack Jagged Alliance 2: Gold Pack was published by Strategy First on August 6, 2002 and adds improvements to Unfinished Business to the final release of Jagged Alliance 2. The package also includes Unfinished Business and a script editor. Gold Pack makes notable changes to complexity settings. The player, having chosen an advanced level of difficulty, can also decide that the player is timed and banned from saving during the fight, unlike the original Jagged Alliance 2, which set these settings automatically. Jagged Alliance 2: Wildfire Jagged Alliance 2: Wildfire, Version 5, was programmed by i-Deal Games and published by Strategy First in 2004 as an official expansion package. From a 3D isometric point of view, each player controls and supports a group of mercenaries and is tasked with using their abilities to perform missions and raise money and build a reputation. To succeed, players must train and equip their mercenaries with the best weapons and tools. Players can also help each other work together to complete the battlefields and there are also player vs player battles. Players work from headquarters that can be created and improved. From here, players can send their mercenaries on more than 100 missions around the world. Jagged Alliance Online was developed by cliffhanger Productions using and has full 3D graphics. In July 2013, a free version was available on the Steam market. Jagged Alliance: Back in Action on August 20, 2010, bitComposer Games announced Jagged Alliance: Back in Action, a full-blown remake of Jagged Alliance 2. It was originally called Jagged Alliance: Reloaded. The game was showcased at GDC 2011 and released on February 9, 2012. The stated purpose of the remake was to improve the original concept of the game, as well as the visual weaknesses of the original. The history and content are markedly different from the original as well, with key strategic elements such as board vehicles and militia training removed. It is easier to train mercenaries and are constantly hired for a one-time fee, rather than on the basis of payment time of the original. Conversational trees with NPC have been replaced by linear dialogue to speak or stop talking. The humorous scenes with the exploits of the queen were also removed. Jagged Alliance: Back in Action has state-of-the-art 3D graphics in an isometric perspective. The user interface has been completely redesigned and includes a new detailed tutorial that helps new players learn to play the game properly. The new plan s Go system further removes the classic Jagged Alliance main gameplay based on a turn. It also initially removed the fog of war, making the tactical element of the game easier and faster to play as it was unnecessary for the player to prepare for an enemy surprise attack or ambush with all enemies immediately visible. The fog of the military system was added to the game after the release, called Tactical Mode, which requires mercenaries to acquire a line of sight on the enemy so that they become visible. According to the developers, the remake will take players about 70 hours. The critical reception was mixed at best, with armchairempire.com said: Jagged Alliance: Back in action, and, will be for years, therefore, the final example of a tutorial on how to spoil the numbers when trying to renew the classic franchise. Even the Finnish magazine Pelit in one of the most positive reviews at the international level stated: Back in action is not a bad game, but pales in comparison to the father. Shades of Red's first downloadable Shades of Red content package was released for Jagged Alliance: Back in Action on May 18, 2012. Point Blank's second Package Point Blank was released for Jagged Alliance: Back in Action on June 14, 2012. Jagged Alliance: Crossfire on June 13, 2012 bitComposer Games and Kalypso announced the first add-on to Jagged Alliance: Back in Action. The crossfire comes shortly after the events of Jagged Alliance 2 in Haanpa, a small micronation located somewhere in the volatile Asian region. A huge temple was discovered, and with it a large vein of coltan ore. This is causing a devastating religious conflict, financed by resources, which have resulted in the deaths of many innocent people caught in the crossfire, as the leader of the genitagne cult profites from a humanitarian disaster. The is unwilling to send peacekeepers as a possible chance to fail in peacekeeping efforts, and Ambassador Haanpa is sending AIM to defuse that threat. After the death of the cult leader, the volcanic eruption occurs near Haanpa and the UN finally sends in peacemaking efforts to help rebuild the nation as a result of crossfire. It was released on August 24, 2012 on Steam in downloadable format and elsewhere on September 25, 2012 as a physical product. Jagged Alliance: Crossfire was developed by Coreplay in Munich. Jagged Alliance 3D and 3 Strategy First and Game Factory Interactive announced in June 2004 that Russian developer MiST Land South would develop the next two Games in the Jagged Alliance series: Jagged Alliance 3D (JA3D) and Jagged Alliance 3 (JA3). Jagged Alliance 3D was conceived as JA2 in 3D, or basically the same game as Jagged Alliance 2, but using a 3D engine. Jagged Alliance 3 will be a true extension of JA2, a full-fledged game in the same vein as JA2, and using an engine designed for JA3D. JA3D will be released quickly, within a year or two after the release of the generally successful Wildfire fashion, followed by Jagged Alliance 3. SFI choose GFI because GFI has already released Cops 2170, a tactical strategy game published by SFI in North America. The two companies already have a relationship, and it was decided that the JA3D project could be mutually beneficial. From statements made by both Strategy First and Game Factory Interactive, it is clear that GFI has taken on development costs, and SFI ownership and a shared vision of the project. This arrangement has proved to be very cumbersome and prone to misunderstanding and confusion. SFI naturally had very ambitious goals for JA3D while GFI sought to control development costs and time. The original plan was for GFI to use a modified Cops 2170 engine to quickly produce JA3D. However, GFI already had a second strategy game in production, ALFA: Anti-terror, and they decided to use this engine for both games. GFI plans to install a game in Africa that was good with SFI. However, GFI ran into strategic issues for the Jagged Alliance. Instead, they proposed a mission-based structure for JA3D. There will be no free strategic layer, as in Jagged Alliance and Jagged Alliance 2, where the player makes strategic decisions about movement and initiates attacks on the map. Instead, the game will be structured as Jagged Alliance : Deadly Games, with a series of missions that were essentially combat levels. SFI was resistant to the idea, but agreed with it, feeling that it would shorten development time. In addition, JA3D was always intended as a bridge between JA2 and JA3, so it was acceptable that it was not a complete game. On July 20, 2006, Game Factory Interactive announced the dissolution of MiST Land South on August 1, 2006. In August 2006, SFI also revoked the rights to JA3D. GFI claims that the game simply does not fit into SFI plans. SFI, on the other hand, claims that JA3D was incomplete and unprepared for the scheduled release date. It is obvious that the SFI, faced with years of development without any progress, has finally abandoned the project. This left GFI without the right to use any JA3D intellectual property, including characters and storylines.
