Show Grounds Clean Up Campaigns

his year, the council of the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria has invited Alcoa of Australia to participate in a "clean-up" campaign on the Show Grounds. Alcoa will establish a "Cash-a-Can" centre on the corner of McCracken Avenue and Skene Street where children visiting the Show will receive 45 cents per kg. of aluminium cans. Alcoa has been responsible for implementing many such schemes which have proved highly successful at the Festival in Melbourne and Sydney's Royal Easter Show, as well as setting up permanent cash-a-can centres throughout Melbourne and Sydney suburbs. Can litter bags will be freely available to Show visitors particularly children, for the duration of the Show. This clean up program has the support of the "Keep Australia Beautiful" Council and will, it is hoped, result in a significantly cleaner Show Grounds.

The Alcoa can man will be at the 1980 Royal Show to distribute special aluminium can collection bags. Soft drinks in aluminium cans will be sold widely throughout the Show this year and the Alcoa Cash-A-Can Centre on the corner of Skene Street and McCracken Avenue will be there to buy the empties back at 450/kg, that's a cent a can!
