and Women’s Leadership Seminar 2019 October 22 – November 2, 2019 With the Rev. Dr. Kit Kleinhans, Dean of Trinity Lutheran Seminary

Learn about women who played influential roles in the sixteenth century Reformation, in the home, in the church, and in the political realm. Explore some of Martin ’s writings about women and women’s experience. Visit important Reformation sites. Reflect together with women and allies about how the lessons of these women and the theology of the Reformation can empower women’s ministry today!

The Rev. Dr. Kathryn “Kit” Kleinhans, has led seven seminars on the Reformation and the Empowerment of Women for ELCA Global Mission. Through these seminars, women from churches in the global south and the former communist bloc gathered together in , Germany, to learn about women of the sixteenth century Reformation and to reflect on their own identity, experience, and ministry as heirs of the Reformation. This year’s seminar is an opportunity for participants from the ELCA to have a similar experience.

One special feature of this trip is a visit to Ravensbrück, the Nazi concentration camp established exclusively for women and staffed primarily by female guards. While this experience is not related directly to the Reformation, it is a powerful opportunity to engage the reality of women’s victimization and survival in light of our faith.

Please note that the seminar price of $1500 is for land arrangements only. Participants are responsible for making their own flight arrangements, which allows the flexibility to use preferred airlines, use frequent flyers miles, or extend your trip before or after the seminar. Participants need to arrive at Berlin-Tegel (TXL) (roughly by noon on October 23); departure date is November 2. We provide transportation to and from the airport on those dates.

Continuing Education credit is available upon request
