MINUTES of the meeting of 19 March 2002, from 3 pm – 6.30 pm, and 20 March 2002, from 9 am – 12.30 pm BRUSSELS

The meeting opened at 3.10 pm on Tuesday, 19 March 2002, with Christa Randzio-Plath, chairwoman, in the chair.

1. Adoption of draft agenda PE 307.512

The chair points out that Commissioner Bolkestein will appear before the committee at 17h15 and that Mr Issing, member of the board of the ECB will be present on Wednesday at 10h00 for an exchange of views with members in the framework of the debate on Mr Trentin's report on the perspectives of the European economy.

The draft agenda was adopted.

2. Chairman's announcements:

The chair informs members - that the Commission organises a meeting on 26 March from 11h00-13h00 in room ASP 1E1 on its upcoming proposal for a directive on capital adequacy, - that on 26 March the European Savings Banks Association organises an information meeting on developments in the financial services sector at 19h00 in the Members' restaurant, - on President Cox's proposals on the improvement of some proceedings in plenary.

3. Appointment of rapporteurs and draftsmen – decisions on procedure Decisions of the co-ordinators' meeting of 11 march 2002 in Strasbourg
