Company Profile

Schoology founders Jeremy Friedman, Ryan Hwang, Tim Trinidad, and Bill Kindler teamed up and formed a C-Corporation and began the development of Schoology at the end of 2009. Their mission: To reinvent the way technology is implemented in the . With a goal of improving student outcomes, they realized the need to disrupt the education technology market by making Schoology available for every teacher in every classroom. Schoology not only provides schools and districts with a configurable, scalable, and easy-to-implement solution, but also provides a basic version of its award-winning platform free for teachers. As a result, enterprise adoption is easier for schools and districts. Our Creed: Because of the teachers and students who inspire us, we strive to stay curious, learn something every day, and always be open to new ideas. Headquartered in New York, the Schoology team includes 100 of the industries brightest professionals and growing. Schoology is a private, international company, with over 7 million users and customers in 136 countries. Teaching isn't easy. All too often educators are asked to achieve high goals with meager resources and distracted students. No technology alone can improve learning, but an intimate partnership between educational institutions and technology developers can.

Historically, LMSs have been differentiated through the features and functions they offer, and while this is still true today, we at Schoology believe that it is time to change the conversation, from Learning Management to a focus on creating a Digital Learning Ecosystem, powered by a state-of-the-art Instructional Operating System. The advantages are many, and significant. The Schoology platform allows districts and their sub-systems to come together in a strategic manner to exert greater control and influence over their digital learning infrastructure. It enables each institution, its faculty, and students to draw on an evolving set of native and integrated 3rd party tools to support digital learning for residential, flipped classroom, online and blended learning.

Our cloud-based, SaaS solution is flexible, scalable and highly extensible. Schoology is the epicenter of interoperability and the foundation for instructional integration. It overcomes the challenges that conventional LMSs have integrating new features and technologies by behaving more like your computers operating system rather than an array of disparate software applications and tools struggling to co-exist. Conventional LMSs are inefficient, unmanageable, perpetuate silos of information and lack a user-centric

focus. In fact, some have argued that the feature/function “arms race” of learning platforms has actually led to systems that are “less usable” and incredibly frustrating for student and faculty end-users:

The course-centered systems built over the last 15 years--and their modern day iterations--place a high priority on features and functions, but often at the expense of usability. As an industry, staying competitive in the LMS marketplace has often meant having the ability to put a check in the feature box of an RFP. This has led to a marketplace consisting of loosely integrated disparate technologies, lackluster faculty adoption and disappointing student outcomes. Schoology’s founders had a much different vision, to build a platform that students would actually want to use and educators would embrace--one that would become the foundation for interoperability and support a digital learning ecosystem. Schoology is a platform focused on usability (UI/UX) and interoperability while incorporating personalized learning tools that enhance the important roles of community, communication and collaboration within education. The results have been profound. The product has become a game changer and new paradigm for online learning. As the 2014 SIIA CODiE 3x award winner, including for Top Overall Education Solution, we believe the Schoology platform has set a new standard for online learning; in fact, we have created a whole new category of technology, the Instructional Operating System. We have moved the conversation from course and learning management to an institutional, enterprise-wide conversation about efficiency, efficacy and student success.

Learning Management System Overview 9.1 Requirements 9.1.1 Ease of Use User friendly for teachers and students

Schoology harnesses the power of social networking to create a dynamic, interactive and community- based learning environment. Because the interface mirrors popular social networking sites, educators are able to quickly and intuitively integrate Schoology into the classroom with little or no training. Students are excited to use Schoology because it’s similar to communication platforms which they use outside the classroom. Additionally, students stay focused on learning because content is delivered in a highly interactive, individualized, and engaging way. Collaboration and connection come easy when technology is always on.

9.1.2 Course Delivery Syllabus

A Course syllabus can be stored and utilized in a Schoology course.

Rosters

The Schoology Platform and as such receives all roster and schedule in an instantaneous and integrated process. As part of the SIS Integration Platform, or other previously described integration methods, all school buildings, grading periods, users, courses, sections and enrollments are transferred to Schoology automatically. No action on behalf of teachers is required in either methodology.

Ability to record and replay lessons

Using Schoology’s conferencing tool, users can share and record sessions.

Ability to have multiple teachers with full access to lessons

Multiple teachers can be assigned to a single course.

Ability to present courses By module By date Calendar view of assignments

Instructors can easily build learning paths from course elements by organizing content into folders that provide sequential access to material. Content can be released by time/date allowing instructors to provide autonomous learning paths.

Course Features Courses and content are controlled by access control. Instructors have the ability to designate that only students of a particular course can see material. Subsets of the course can be categorized as well to allow further granular control, preventing access to the course roster while still showing the rest of the material. Students can post discussions which can be graded by the teacher; here a recent activity feed shows which students are participating and a perfect example of how Schoology reaches students by engaging them in discussions.

Templates/Catalogs Course and content templates can be created, managed and shared via the Resources area. This allows users to pick and choose desired material for import into other courses in a single click. Entire courses, or course templates, can be obtained by simply choosing to “Copy section.”

Course Creation Schoology allows for native course creation via several methods: users may manually create courses, import courses from a file or SIS, or programmatically create courses via the Schoology REST-based API. Courses can be created in a number of ways; by an instructor (though this can be disabled via a permission), by an administrator either manually or imported in bulk, or programmatically via the Schoology API. Schoology also offers several optional methods for enrollment creation; by the instructor

of a course selecting from a list (which can be disabled), by the student using an access code by an instructor (which can be disabled), by an administrator (either manually, or imported in bulk), or programmatically via the Schoology API.

Course Delivery Schoology meets the needs of all different types of teaching styles. For instructors that want to quickly update their online courses, Schoology provides a “Post” feature on the instructor’s homepage that allows a user to create certain material (e.g. assignments, events, and announcements) and instantly post the material to their course(s) and/or group(s), which drastically reduces the amount of time instructors need to spend updating their online environments.

To build out more robust online courses, Schoology allows for courses to be structured using content folders, which can contain any content type. These folders can also provide sequential organization. Students and instructors are informed of new assignments, test/quizzes, and events via a notification system and notification alerts. These alerts can be customized on an individual basis.

Students and instructors are reminded of assignments and due dates via personal upcoming planners on their homepage and an aggregated calendar. A user calendar can be added to an external provider via a Schoology iCal feed, enabling a user to view Schoology events in a user’s native calendaring application. Schoology offers an internal messaging system where instructors and students can communicate and share files/links. The internal messaging system can be filtered, as well as monitored, from an administrative aspect. Schoology also communicates via Schoology’s digital Drop box. The Dropbox provides an interface for students to submit files for revision and/or grade. It also allows for instructors to return files with comments.

Course Calendar Schoology’s calendars are color-coded, provide automatic updating, and can synchronize with other web- based calendars such as or . Our calendars are associated with every member, group and campus that the user belongs to and can integrate with personal calendars via iCal links. With Google Apps integration, this can be synced to or from Google Calendar as well. This compiles into one incredibly useful calendar with drag and drop functionality. Any time an event with a date is created it is automatically aggregated on the user’s personal Schoology calendar. Syncing your calendar is a simple process that the user chooses during account set up.

Assignment notification Via Email Via SMS

Announcements can be easily pushed out to the entire district, school, course, or group through the Updates feature. The Updates area is used by administration and instructors to create announcements and brief messages to the designated audience. Updates will appear in the Updates section of your course and/or group as well as on your homepage. Update notifications can reach end users by text message, email, push notification, or native within the platform.

9.1.3 Required Tools Forums

Schoology provides the ability to easily create course or group discussions at any time, which are threaded and neatly organized. Users can reply in-line to one another, attach files, embed links and video, and record video or audio to their posts. In course discussions, teachers have the ability to filter user and see how many comments have been made.

Quiz features Online grading and test results delivery

Schoology includes many automatic processes to save time including automatic grading. Primarily, any assignment, unless otherwise marked by the instructor, will generate a gradebook entry. Furthermore, in terms of assessments, all questions with the exception of short answer/essay questions, can be automatically graded, saving instructors countless hours of time.

Schoology’s grading tools are intuitively placed directly onto grading materials to enable for efficient recording of grades. The integrated gradebook in Schoology compiles all graded materials, including automatically scored assessments. Grading for responses, discussion board participation, learner submitted essays and attendance is available in both the full, browser based Schoology or in the mobile App formats. Schoology’s API will enable real-time and batch data integration with your SIS. Lastly the Gradebook is visible, including all weighting, periods and categories to learners on a permission basis. (Administrators may turn on-off and customize access on a configurable, user-role basis.)

Schoology’s App Center - Schoology makes Apps accessible through an iFrame canvas which links to one or more pages on a product’s application server. Simply put, you can fully integrate and pass data back and forth between applications like Blackboard Collaborate and Turnitin. And, you can run any URL from within Schoology. Merely linking to a static URL like google.com or a specific YouTube video is no different than attaching an embed code to a Schoology content type. What makes an embedded application extremely useful is the communication that happens between your linked application and the Schoology API. Because the application processing happens on your server, the developer is able to use any server programming language to output your HTML webpages.

Apps can be configured to run directly within a course, or even right on the user’s homepage. This allows developers to create a highly integrated experience, where users feel as though Schoology and third-party Apps are one in the same. Developing Apps is greatly simplified with the help of Schoology’s publically available developer site (https://developers.schoology.com/app-platform). The developer area provides useful information such as developer resources, Software Developer Kits (SDKs), and additional items that can be helpful when learning about the App Center.

The Schoology document viewer can convert media nearly 200 hundred file types accessible via a browser. The same hold trues for video. Notice, too, that teachers have the ability to add resource to and from their , and other shared resources.

Students can easily submit assignments (via Schoology Assignment drop box) from their Schoology Resources, which includes the integrated Google Drive. They may also select to attach their assignment from their network or computer directory. Students may also compose and submit via the embedded rich text editor. Schoology’s drop box supports over 200 file types including many common types such as Pages, Word, and PDF.

For mobile and tablet devices, Students can create and submit their homework directly through the mobile apps by typing a text submission, taking a photo, or recording video. They can also upload files into Schoology and submit them into the assignment Dropbox.

9.1.6 Cloud Integration Google Drive and Google Apps integration Office 365 integration

Yes. Schoology enables a district to leverage third-party applications within the platform, either through our API or by conforming to IMS Global Standards. A common integration is with Google Apps for Education. For instance, a user might integrate with Blackboard Collaborate or Big Blue Button, so that sessions are created and scheduled within Schoology. The user would then have a link, directly from Schoology, that would log him/her into the conference without ever leaving Schoology. We currently integrate with Google Apps for Education by allowing institutions to register their Google Apps domain with Schoology to provision accounts and establish Single Sign-On. Additionally, Schoology allows for integrations with Google Docs and Google Calendar.

The best educational solutions are built to enhance core competency. For Schoology, that means building a dynamic, easy-to-use learning platform that stands as the operating system for education. The Schoology App Center provides you with access to the most effective educational applications on the market. These apps are seamlessly integrated and installed with the click of a button. Apps can be developed with a “scope” limited to a particular institution which provides users with the ability to develop custom applications only seen by District users and is hosted on your own servers with your own code (in any language). An example of this could be a connection to data warehouse, SIS or any other external service. This allows you to provide a custom and seamless experience that has single-sign-on, direct communication with Schoology, all from an integrated environment. The App Center provides a medium for viewing all Apps that are available to the currently logged in user. In addition to advanced searching techniques, each App has its own custom profile which is created by the App developer, and approved by Schoology.

Schoology makes Apps accessible through an iFrame canvas which links to one or more pages on a product’s application server. Simply put, you can fully integrate and pass data back and forth between

applications like Blackboard Collaborate and Turnitin.

The developer area provides useful information such as developer resources, Software Developer Kits (SDKs), and additional items that can be helpful when learning about the App Center. Schoology is on the forefront of integration and interoperability, and is fully aware of the K-12 federated search standards currently under development by the IMS global team. Schoology will carefully review the scope of these K-12 federated search standards and consider them for development once they’re published by IMS and available to the public.

9.1.7 Course Bank Ability to save assigned courses to individual teachers Should associate with a course in PB Gradebook so that curriculum and students are assigned after import. This could be a manual process.

All course and course material within Schoology can be saved into Resources for use later. Additionally, template courses can be created, and new courses can be created based upon the template course.

Provided that Schoology has all the necessary API endpoints from PB, a direct integration can be implemented so that users, courses, sections, and enrollments are all automatically provisioned from PB directly to Schoology. This type of integration has already been implemented within Schoology for many SIS, including, but not limited to, Sungard eSchool Plus, TIES, PowerSchool, and others. At the current time, PB does not have all of the necessary endpoints to complete this level of integration. However, if the proper level of API endpoints were available, Schoology would complete this integration at no additional charge to the District.

In the meantime, without API access, Schoology can be provisioned using Automated SFTP. This is a component of our Technical Implementation, and is something that we would assist with. Our technical team has a customized ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tool that is used to create an automated script that would pull information from ProgressBook and upload to Schoology via SFTP.

9.1.8 Class List integration with ProgressBook Suite Class list should directly integrate with suite via Vendorlink

Schoology currently supports API integration to third party gradebooks and does not require schools to leave their online gradebook to use Schoology. At this time, the ProgressBook gradebook API (Vendorlink) does not have end points for marking periods, and the relation of teachers to sections and assignments. Therefore, API integration is not available from ProgressBook at this time. Please note that there are multiple instances where schools have elected to opt out of ProgressBook and use the Schoology gradebook exclusively, which does provide a tool to integrate summary reporting grades into DASL SIS for state and gradecard reporting. If ProgressBook were to provide the necessary API endpoints to complete this level of integration, Schoology would implement this functionality at no additional charge.

Please note that at the current time, given the limitations in the VendorLink API, no LMS can provide this level of integration. However, as mentioned above, Automatic SFTP could be used to accomplish this goal today.

Below is an example of how Schoology integrates with Powerschool for this functionality:

9.1.9 Assignment integration with ProgressBook Suite Assignments created by teachers should directly integrate with suite via Vendorlink

Schoology currently supports API integration to third party gradebooks and does not require schools to leave their online gradebook to use Schoology. 9.1.11 Course Curriculum Bank Purchased and home grown materials

Learning Object Repository (LOR) Unlike other LMS vendors that are course driven, Schoology offers a true Learning Object Repository (Public Resources) that all users can contribute to or access for materials storage and retrieval for their courses. Schoology actively promotes the ability to collect, store and even share resources from peer-to- peer, programs, schools and districts through personal, group or public resources. Personal resources allow the user to save a collection of their own specific content or aligned item banks for use in their course, assignment, or assessments; the group resources function collects materials for activity, study, education or global Schoology community educator users.

Adding content to the LOR, or teachers’ resources is menu driven and logical; simply by choosing the type of file or collection and importing it, the resource is saved. Various video, audio text, interactive content and image files can be linked, categorized and shared. Loading files also includes video, audio and other file types. Shown here is an example of a teacher adding alignments to a file while adding to their personal resources or LOR:

The Schoology document viewer can convert media nearly 200 hundred file types accessible via a browser. The same hold trues for video. Teachers also have the ability to add resource to and from their Google Docs, and other shared resources.

29 LMS RFQ

Schoology’s search functionality allows users to easily search for content and resources within their private, group or public resources area. Searches can be run to look for resources by key word, content type or even by state standard alignment.

Adding, storing and sharing files of all types also extends to Schoology Groups. Here, a Social Studies group has the same functionality as above with the ability to add, store and share content. Monitioring and privacy filters can be intstitued by the teacher.

30 LMS RFQ

Further, Schoology’s Resource Center can provide easy access to sort (and rate) content across a school, district, state, or Global Schoology community. The benefit of the Resource Center is to allow an instructor to upload files and links into a course. The instructor can open or limit access of the posted material to a variety of different levels. In this way, if a user who is not authorized obtains a direct link to the course material, he/she will still remain unable to access the documents. This method of access control provides granular control through an easy-to-use and easy-to-understand interface.

An example with even more granularity involves a user’s personal “Resources” area. The Resources area allows a user to retain files, links, documents, and templates of any material inside a “Collection.” This Collection can then be shared with trusted users on a one-by-one basis. The user who is sharing the material can then further designate whether access is editable, or simply viewable.

9.1.13 Reporting Login statistics Audit logging Usage reporting

Schoology has multiple levels of analytics to allow instructors and administrators to view and analyze data within the system. Tracking usage and interactions in the platform can be done on both a course and school/district wide level. On the course level, instructors can see analytics broken out by Course, Users, Assignments, Discussions, and Links. Administrators and instructors will be able to find individualized usage statistics for each student in the course. Summary data such as last login date, last course access, total time in course, and total number of posts can all be seen in the initial view. One more click will reveal more data on their interactions and activity for course items like Assignments, Quizzes, and Discussions. For each of these items, you will find information about first access, last access, total time spent on an item, first submission, last submission, and total action counts.

On a School-wide level, administrators can also track overall usage and adoption of the platform. Using School Analytics, analytics are broken out by School, Users, and System Logs. This information includes total visits, total/average page views, average time per visit, total comments posted, total submissions, and total files uploaded. Each type of data can be individually graphed by clicking on the blocks at the top. This will then allow admins to break down the statistics by role (Faculty, Student, Parent) or by School within the District.

Schoology provides administrators quick and easy access to valuable data with every click of the analytics feature or icon:

Administrators can utilize analytics transactional reporting and system logs to generate reports and export data from the system. Using the “School Analytics” tab, teachers or administrators have access to a “users” tab where they can track student activity for courses on a course or school-wide basis. This information can be generated for a selected set of users or exported in bulk. With Schoology’s App Center district has the ability to build a proprietary report writer or integrate with a third party tool that is already being used.

37 LMS RFQ

On a School-wide level, administrators can also track overall usage and adoption of the platform. Administrators can go to School Analytics in the left menu to access this area, which contains analytics broken out by School, Users, and System Logs. The School tab displays overall usage statistics for all schools in the district.

Schoology also provides detailed analytics to assess student performance and attainment on standards alignments and learning outcomes (including state and other custom learning outcomes) in an area within the course called Mastery. This area can be accessed from the Course profile > Gradebook > Mastery left menu. Mastery allows instructors to track and measure each students understanding and mastery of concepts. The initial view has a gradebook-style layout that allows instructors to quickly assess overall

38 LMS RFQ

student Mastery on each alignment. Star icons indicate that Mastery has been achieved on these standards, while a progress bar at the top shows overall class progress towards mastery for all students.

There is a Mastery Settings option in this area that allows instructors to customize how the overall scores for each standard/outcome are calculated (average or highest score). This settings area also allows instructors to set the different thresholds for assessing student attainment: Meets Expectations, Exceeds Expectations, Does Not Meet Expectations. Each of these different attainment levels are colored differently for quick visual reference. Instructors can also set the criteria for Mastery by selecting how many times a student must achieve at least a Meets Expectations score on an individual item aligned to the standard in order to be considered as having mastered their understanding on each concept.

39 LMS RFQ

The Mastery score a student receives on each item for a particular standard/outcome can be different from the scores displayed in the Gradebook. In order to provide to most accurate scoring possible, Schoology will calculate alignment specific sub-scores for each item to ensure that grades for other standards/outcome do not factor in. This means if a quiz has multiple questions each aligned to different standards; the Mastery score for that quiz on a particular standard will only factor in questions that are aligned to the same standard. The same applies for rubric-based scoring on assignments or discussions.

Implementation 10.1 Requirements 10.1.1 Multi-site implementation Ability to multi-tenant

Schoology supports multiple site implementations within a single district or institution.

Ability to personalize landing page per site

Schoology is free of third-party branding and can be custom branded to match any look and feel. Custom themes can be applied to the School District or each, individual school. Custom front pages can be developed and can include login fields for Single Sign-On. This includes, but is not limited to, background color, logos, icons, format. WCSD6 will have the ability to use a custom domain or sub-domain.

Ability to distribute administration of a site

Yes. Schoology is a blank slate role-based system that allows administrators to develop an infinite number of roles that can be configured to have different levels of access and permissions. District or school administrators have the ability to create designated roles and permissions through the account user management interface. By default, Schoology creates Student (and Parent if required), teacher and Administrator user roles and assigns each role a set of permissions. Both the role names and/or the

41 LMS RFQ

applied permissions can be customized at any time. In addition to default roles, Schoology allows an administrator to define new or customize existing role names and corresponding permission sets.

Within the permission sets, an administrator can define who has the ability to access specific information. This means that a “super-admin” can specify that a “school administrator” can only administer information at his/her specific school building, while the “super-admin” can administer information for all schools within the District. These permissions are broken down per realm (e.g. course, group, and user) and can be defined per building.

A detailed list of permissions is associated with each user including: . Configurable multiple user roles . Roles included within a department (i.e. teacher, administrator, student) Can control what appears on the homepage . Roles include site authority & district authority hierarchies . Administrators can easily change users from one role to another . Accessible inside/outside the Districts firewall . Be assigned by user . Control who can upload content . Allow Observer/Mentor account access . Monitor message boards . Approve of users . Approval of content

42 LMS RFQ

Ability to provide per site templates for testing and curriculum

Course and content templates can be created, managed and shared via the Resources area. This allows users to pick and choose desired material for import into other courses in a single click. Entire courses, or course templates, can be obtained by simply choosing to “Copy section.”

Courses are automatically added to the course catalog upon creation in Schoology. Access to the course catalog can be controlled to only allow users with a specific permission to view the course listings. The respective privacy setting of any particular course controls access to particular courses. Courses can be searched for via a search engine built into Schoology. Search results are ranked and displayed by relevance. For instance, searching for “English” might return 10 results, however, the first result would be the course you are actually enrolled in (if applicable). Search terms can be either partial words or full words.

As the course catalog is always generated, access to the listing can be controlled through an administrative permission. Course access is controlled via course privacy settings. This means that a user browsing the course catalog might see a course, because it exists, but still not have access due to the instructors restricting access.

10.1.2 Training Online self-paced training with Progress tracking and completion Onsite training options

Schoology will provide customized training focused on a train-the-trainer model for NEOnet System Admins and lead instructors. Each training course includes a course description, intended topics and audience criteria. It is recommended that course participants have basic computer skills and an understanding of how to use internet browser based applications.

While we at Schoology recommend a train-the-trainer approach or some combination of train-the-trainer and end user instruction we also recognize that some organizations have certain needs when it comes to

training and are open to revising training plans to fit the needs of NEOnet. Experience has shown us that creating experts within an organization helps the client achieve continued success using Schoology.

Overall, Schoology is extremely easy and intuitive to implement, utilize, and manage; therefore, the training is designed with a hands-on approach. Schoology offers a variety of ways for delivering professional development for the product: • Onsite Training • Webinars • Synchronous Online Sessions • Instructional Videos There are two required courses that have been developed for all Schoology clients:

Schoology Enterprise Administration – this course is designed for those who will be responsible for configuring the system, managing accounts and maintaining the platform.

Schoology for Master Instructors – this course is designed for those who will be responsible for being the experts on the platform for the client to service as a first line of support and potentially train other instructors.

In addition to the required courses we also have multiple optional courses as well. Courses that might be of particular interest to NEOnet are as follows:

Getting Started with Schoology for Instructors – this course is a video series that will step instructors through how to set up their courses and begin using the basics of Schoology within their classroom.

Getting Started with Schoology for Students – this course is a short video series that will step students through the basics of using Schoology in their classrooms.

Essentials for Leaders – this course is a video series that will show school and district administrators how Schoology can change their learning environment and build a community for their staff, students and parents.

Our Training Plan for NEOnet is based on a Train-the-Trainer model.

Enterprise Administration Team NEOnet will identify 10-15 system administration personnel to make up the organizations Enterprise Administration Team. This team will be responsible for managing users, working with system settings and handling imports and exports. The training will give the team the knowledge to make modifications in Schoology when necessary allowing them to take ownership of the solution being implemented.

Schoology’s easy to use system is created in part by the flexibility and ability to customize infinite roles for each school within the district and the organization as a whole.

SSL version 3 or greater

Schoology does not support SSL version 3, as SSLv3 is susceptible to a major vulnerability knows as POODLE (https://isc.sans.edu/forums/diary/OpenSSL+SSLv3+POODLE+Vulnerability+Official+Release/18827).

For security purposes, Schoology supports secure connections (HTTPS) via TLS.

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a web server and a browser. This link ensures that all data passed between the web server and browsers remain private and integral. SSL is an industry standard and is used by millions of websites in the protection of their online transactions with their customers.

To be able to create an SSL connection a web server requires an SSL Certificate. The complexities of the SSL protocol remain invisible to end-users. Instead, browsers provide them with a key indicator to let them know they are currently protected by an SSL encrypted session by displaying a lock near the URL; clicking on the lock icon displays details about the site’s SSL Certificate. SSL Certificates are issued to verified owners of domains.

115 W. 30th Street, 10th Floor, New York, NY 10001 | 800.393.7550 | Schoology.com

49 LMS RFQ

Typically an SSL Certificate will contain the domain name, company name, address, city, state, and country. It will also contain the expiration date of the Certificate and details of the Certification Authority responsible for the issuance of the Certificate. When a browser connects to a secure site it will retrieve the site's SSL Certificate and check that it has not expired, that it has been issued by a Certification Authority the browser trusts, and that it is being used by the website for which it has been issued. If it fails on any one of these checks the browser will display a warning to the end user letting them know that the site is not secured by SSL. Schoology makes use of an extra secure extended validation certificate, which can be determined when visiting https://www.schoology.com and noticing the green URL bar.

Applications make varying and different uses of SSL depending on use case. For websites that collect credit card information, any form collecting data would be served from a page behind SSL. With Schoology, pages involving sensitive user information are served through SSL. Login Credential Security

Session based security

Every action performed on Schoology is logged in an advanced logging system. The logging system records the acting user, their IP address, the timestamp, the browser type, and the type of action. This data is stored indefinitely and provides a complete audit trail of system activity. These logs act not only as a troubleshooting mechanism for school administrators, but also as a robust security tool.

10.1.4 LDAP integration The product should have the ability to integration with multiple LDAP Sources

Schoology can establish Single Sign-On (Remote Authentication) with third-party systems and integrate with LDAP/AD or any third-party authentication service.

10.1.5 Access The product should have 24-7 access for teachers and students to use anytime, anywhere, and any device

Schoology is an intuitive, easy to use platform that can be accessed anytime, anywhere, from any web enabled device.
