Getting To (from Lerwick) by car:

Getting to Fetlar takes a while. The first ferry terminal is a 55 minute drive north from Lerwick along the A970 which is signed for or Toft. At Voe take the A968 to Toft. At Toft you will board the ferry before enjoying a 20 minute crossing to Yell. Fares are payable on this service. There are no charges on any further ferry services into Fetlar or .

You can often see lots of seabirds and seals from the ferry. Sometimes you can see dolphins, Minke Whales or Basking Sharks. Hot & cold drinks & confectionary are available on this service in the passenger lounge. It’s worth going upstairs on the ferry for the view!

When you reach Yell you will have to drive north along the A968 for 18 miles before reaching . This should take under half an hour. Beware of sheep on the road right across Yell! They don’t follow the highway code.

The ferry crossing from Gutcher (Yell) or Belmont (Unst) to Hamars Ness in Fetlar takes 25 minutes. The ferry sometimes runs direct from Yell to Fetlar, but there are times when you will have to sail to Unst first. Only hot drinks are available on this ferry.

When you arrive in Fetlar there is an information point at the Ferry Terminal building.

In Fetlar, please use passing places to help traffic flow and be aware that animals may suddenly appear in the road.

Using the Timetable:

All ferry services marked with an * need to be booked through the booking office. You are advised to book all sailings as this will enable you to use ‘booked lanes’ at the ferry terminals and avoid the unbooked queue. Ferry capacity is often limited in the summer.
