August 1, 2016

Ah! Summer. I love it. I hope you are enjoying it also. It will be over way too soon. I hope you are getting ready for the All Euro Car Show on August 20th at Veterans Park. It is going to be bigger and better this year, but only with your help. Registration begins at 9:00am on August 20th. The turnout for the Phillipsburg trip was small. Just Jim and Karen Grace and myself. But we had a great drive through the beautiful Pintler Scenic route. Phillipsburg is a quaint little town with a lot of min- ing history. Karen and I split a bag of rocks from the Montana Gem sapphire mine. We both found some sapphires at least one carat in size to make something. We have two trips for September if you are interested. The Hay Bale Trail is Sunday, September 11th. If you are interested let me know and I will organize something. Even if we do not go as a group it is a fun day trip to Hobson and Windham. I also have eight tickets reserved for the Tippet Rise outdoor Art in Fishtail. If I need to order more please let me know. We will leave from the usual Holiday Station on Gabel Rd at 9:30 am on Saturday the 17th. Our reservations are for 11:00 am. They serve lunch on the property or we can go on into Fishtail as they have a great little restaurant there. We have several members that have renewed their membership. Thanks and hope to see you at one of our events. Our next breakfast meeting at Grains of Montana in Billings is on August 13th. I hope to see you soon.

Porsche repeats last year’s victory at the Nürburgring

Stuttgart. The reigning world champions (DE), Bren- don Hartley (NZ) and (AU) repeated their last year’s win at the six-hour race at the Nürburgring (DE). By doing so, Porsche, with the 919 Hybrid, extended their lead in the manufacturer standings of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). (FR), (CH) and (DE) came fourth in the race and continue to lead the drivers’ world championship. Just like the 2015 debut, the German round of the WEC was a success: 58,000 specta- tors witnessed breathtaking motorsport in nice summer weather in the Eifel mountains. It was the fourth of nine rounds of the 2016 WEC. 5

But of course if you get the chance to win Le Mans, you won’t say no thank you. It’s impossible to realize right now what just happened. This year, the lap times were a bit slower due to the regulation changes.”

14 Porsche Wins Le Mans

Neel Jani (32, Switzerland): (7 races: qualifying record lap and 5th place overall 2015) “I feel heartbroken for the Toyota drivers. I think every racing driver knows how this feels like. I still have no words to describe winning the 24 hours of Le Mans. This is really surreal. Still we drove a very good race with very few mistakes and pushed the car to the maximum. This win is really, really special.”

Marc Lieb (35, Germany): (10 races: 5th place overall 2015, class victories GTE 2013, GT2 2010, GT 2005) “It was not at all an easy race with regards to traffic and slow zones. The last quadruple stint I did was really on the edge. Even the first three stints were quite difficult with overtaking in the traffic and tak- ing risks. In the last one I then also had to save fuel, and especially the front tires that began to lose performance. I gave everything I had – and now I think I have to digest what all has happened to- day.”
