Superheroes, etc.: Review - Orc Stain Vol. 1 To add to that tradition we now have Orc Stain by James Stokoe and it is awesome. This story begins with a nameless orc because they are all nameless who is being chased after an encounter with a former partner turned bloody and disabling. Make no mistake, by adding more depth to the orcs does not mean Stokoe makes them the good guys. The creatures here are smelly, mean spirited and drug addled the way orcs should be. This comic is equal parts hilarious, vulgar and action packed. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. Want to Read saving…. Want to Read Currently Reading Read. Other editions. Start your review of Orc Orc Stain: v. 1, Vol. Other artists -- some of whom I like just as much or better -- usually start strong, but gradually convince me of their genius as the story progresses The dangerous levels of awesomeness emitted by Rafael Grampa: The fourth name on that list is James Stokoe. His early work in Won Ton Soup bears a strong resemblance to the style of his friend Brandon Graham; but my first exposure was the spot he landed after making a huge evolutionary leap: the toxic colors and bold, intricate line-work of 'Orc Stain: Volume 1'. With that many ingredients, the stylistic influences coalesce and disappear, becoming something new. Equally dangerous awesomeness from James Stokoe: Honestly, 'Orc Stain' could've sucked as a story -- I think I expected it to suck -- so I was surprised to find myself loving Stokoe's nasty little Orc Stain: v. 1 about a world ruled by Orcs. This goes way beyond the 'grimdark' genre in many ways, but it's got an easy, lightly satirical humor that keeps it far from bleak. Everything in this world looks diseased or poisonous, but it's fun to look at and richly detailed. The mountains Orc Stain: v. 1 dotted with huge, stone Orc-heads Orc Stain: v. 1 grave-markers for those who have earned a number in death -- and fat, bear-like monsters called 'Gurpa', who act as living vaults, waking only when someone tries to break in. Sexy, krab-smoking Love Nymphs are everywhere, but female orcs are mysteriously absent. When we first meet One-Eye, a thief and vault- buster with the ability to see the fault-lines and pressure points of Orc Stain: v. 1 structure, orc-made or natural, he's doing a job Orc Stain: v. 1 the Norman, a local Skrubtown gangster who's partnered him up with a nasty orc called Pointy-Face. When the Gurpa they break into is empty, Pointy-Face rips off One-Eye to clear his debt, leaving him to face the prospect of losing his gronch -- his dick -- as recompense. One-Eye escapes just as sinister agents of the OrcTzar come north looking for him, but is wounded in the melee by these deadly 'Shakatuu' henchmen. When the poisoned dart leaves him unconscious in a bog, One-Eye is nursed back to health by a Swamp Ramba, a clever and conniving mistress of poison with her own agenda. The Shakatuu aren't far behind, finding her hut in the swamp quite easily witches always have a swamp-hut ; they make a dangerous enemy of her, stealing One-Eye and destroying her home. The story then heads into one of those excavated troglodyte temples orcs have been pioneering since Tolkien-times, where One-Eye is being held by Sersa, the Orc-Tzar's right hand, as the possible key to a massive Orc Stain: v. 1 prophecy. Crazy-but-still-sort-of-familiar-violence-and-mayhem ensue. In case you ever Orc Stain: v. 1 what an Orc civilization might use as its economic standard, well The story has a little of 'Dungeon's Orc Stain: v. 1 to blend satire Orc Stain: v. 1 earnest adventure, subverting some tropes and using others, even as it pokes gentle fun. Attention is given to every slimy corner of this world, from the slap-dash ghetto architecture, deliberately over-wrought Darrow-like mechanisms, and inventive puppet-telegraphy that has a Orc Stain: v. 1 'King City' feel. It even includes an informative appendix with more details on gronch- based chits, and an afterword in which Stokoe acknowledges his debt to AD, which in retrospect But artists never mention their deepest influences, either because they're unaware of the debt or they take it for granted. I hope Stokoe gets back to Orc Stain, but he's busy with Godzilla lately, a gig that probably pays better than this creator-owned project from Image. Even though I'd probably 5-star this motherfucker for the art alone, Orc Stain also works as an really entertaining read. View all 13 comments. Jan 01, Sam Quixote rated it liked it. Because the art in this book is wonderful, really. The brutal and primitive aspects to this world made me think of Mad Max - definitely Orc Stain: v. 1 plus - and the way the Orcs communicate over long distances through blinded marionettes was genius, kinda like a precursor to that guy in Fury Road with the flamethrower guitar! But oy, the story, the writing? One-Eye remains as one-dimensional as when we first meet him. Orc Stain: v. 1 of orcs shallowly smashing other hordes of orcs - who cares? Dec 28, Jan Philipzig rated it it was ok Shelves: comedytrippyfantasyparodyseximage. Underground-inspired, detailed and colorful but ultimately rather pointless fantasy parody or homage or something. View all 3 comments. Dec 11, Alex rated it it was amazing Shelves: american-indies. This my first time reading anything from James Stokoe. Orc Stain: v. 1 Stain is pure fantasy, created on the drive of Stokoe wanting to give a fitting background to every Orc we ever encountered on the popular fantasy franchises especially Lord of the Rings, being the reason of Stokoe wanting to create Orc Stain in the first place. He thinks Orcs are more than purely evil and unethical beings, so he creates a fantasy series dedicated to them only.

Upon this the Messenger of Allah way peace he upon him said: He who prays night prayer he should observe it in pairs, but if he apprehends the rise of morning, he should observe one rak'ah; that would make the number odd for the rak'ahs observed by him. Messenger of Allah, how is the night prayer? Abu Talib reported that when the Messenger of Allah may peace be upon him got up at night for prayer he would say: I turn my face in complete devotion to One Who is the Originator of the heaven and the earth and I am not of the polytheists. O Allah! This hadith has been narrated by A'mash with the same chain of transmitters but with an exception that it is not mentioned in it: "He said to me: You recited the Qur'an well. The Apostle of Allah may peace be upon him got up during the night and relieved himself, then washed his face and hands and went to sleep. Hisham was his neighbour and he informed him that he had divorced his wife and he narrated the hadith like the one transmitted by Sa'd. THE SHAOLIN COWBOY PDF, EPUB, EBOOK Geof Darrow | 138 pages | 17 Mar 2015 | DARK HORSE COMICS | 9781616557263 | English | Milwaukee, United States The Shaolin Cowboy PDF Book I mean, I know there must be lots of people out there who could enjoy this more than I did, but it obviously strikes me as an acquired taste. Books by Geof Darrow. Average rating 4. Black with spot illustrations by Gary Gianni [55] and one-page strips written and drawn by Darrow. These random speeches are very hit-or-miss, and the verbose "ass-ologues" presented by the Watchowskis at the start of each issue were largely pretentious and bland despite their playful flamboyancy. This remained unreleased in English until the Dark Horse edition. Most of ratings go towards the art which is simply amazing! Some of the fight sequences were incredible but on the whole, I didn't love it. Writer, Penciller , Inker. Community Reviews. Shaolin Cowboy is an American comic book series created, written and drawn by artist Geof Darrow with the exception of the opening dialog in the issues of the original — run, written by The Wachowskis. SC has been my favorite comic for twelve years, but by no means have I ever thought of Geof Darrow as a storyteller , as someone with something to say. Readers also enjoyed. Archived from the original on July 24, Dec 06, Kenny rated it it was amazing Shelves: Everyone's after revenge but, as we know, this cowboy doesn't go down easy. Comic books have rarely been treated as a serious art form or cultural phenomenon. It used to be that creating a comic book would be considered shameful or something done only as side work. Beginning in the 1990s, some comic creators were able to leverage enough cultural capital to influence more media. In the post-9/11 world, generic elements of superheroes began to resonate with audiences; superheroes fight against injustices and are able to confront the evils in today’s America. This has created a billion dollar, Oscar-award-winning industry of superhero movies, as well as allowed created comic book careers for artists and writers.

It argues that the grotesque in these texts embodies the tension between children as economic objects and children as social beings, as the protagonists’ nonhuman elements are used to justify their commodification.
